That was the 4 th time my car was hit in less than a year! Never get a red car and absolutely not a Renault Clio! Twice I was hit when not in vehicle, once by uninsured driver who sped off and once by a woman who went I to the back of me. I never was so pleased to get rid of a car as I was that one!

Sostenueto · 24/09/2018 20:33

Pup is getting huge but still adorable. Alexander hope hubby is on the mend now and glad most are enjoying further education. We are looking at bristol, Warwick, Cambridge and Leicester for unis. Its such a difficult job at mo. Especially with someone who takes so long to make her mind up! Happy uni hunting off to watch university challenge!

AlexanderHamilton · 24/09/2018 21:14

Thanks sost. Unfortunately it looks like it’s chronic & dh is just going to have to learn how to live with things.

Sostenueto · 25/09/2018 07:04

So sorry alexander to hear that newsFlowers my thoughts and prayers to your hubby and family.

whistl · 25/09/2018 07:08

I'm sorry your family is going through this, AH. Did it turn out to be Lyme's disease?

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 25/09/2018 07:45

No. Lyme was negative. Looking more like a type of Menieres.

sandybayley · 25/09/2018 08:12

Sorry to hear that @AlexanderHamilton - how is your DH coping? Is his employer being sympathetic?

Terf2Terf · 25/09/2018 08:37

Morning all Smile Day off today so catching up.
Everyone's DC sound like they're having fun and working and playing hard. Glad the wobbles have sorted themselves out!

DS1 is being incredibly mature about school and homework, I am daily amazed by him, and indeed by the School who seem to really understand children and how to guide them gently in to being able to produce good work and achieve their potential. He is a child that doesn't mix Home and School so I don't suppose we'll ever meet any of the new friends he's making!

I had two cousins with cancer, one died earlier in the sumner but I saw the other one this weekend - she thought she had womb cancer but turns out it's ovarian. She's had 2xchemo, third is tomorrow, then a full hysterectomy in 3 weeks, then 3 more chemo then hopefully finished. She has a good prognosis. And is incredibly upbeat and feeling pretty ok with it all (tired yes but managing it beautifully) and rocking the leopard-print turban-scarf GrinGrin So proud of her fighting spirit.

My new job is great, but I underestimated how tired I'd be after 7hrs in front of a screen. DS2 enjoying having House to himself for an hour after school! He's embraced Y10 and seems to be working. Loves his GCSE option subjects and is doing really well in them (we won't talk about English lit however....)

Terf2Terf · 25/09/2018 08:38

ThanksThanksfor alexander and sost

AlexanderHamilton · 25/09/2018 09:08

(we won't talk about English lit however....) Same here for Yr 10 ds. Dh has requested a meeting about it.

whistl · 25/09/2018 09:13

I watched the 2017 Kingsman film last night with DS1 and DS2. It’s rare to get even one of them to agree that a movie is worth watching as a family, but finding one that they both want to see at the same time is like finding hen's teeth.

OMG though! I thought it was a movie for non-adults and it is (I suppose), but it’s no Cars or Toy Story! I was squirming at the Glastonbury sex scene, but that was the moment DS2 decided it might be worth staying on to watch the rest! The script is awful, the characters completely unempathetic, it has been written to tempt an American teenage audience and the plot manages to make all the 007 films look believable, but the boys watched it through to the end.

PS What has MN done to the return key in editor? I can’t put in paragraphs without writing in an editor and copy pasting into MN.

LimitIsUp · 25/09/2018 09:17

I enjoyed Kingsman - simple soul that I am Grin. Yy to the paragraphs (which is why there aren't any in this post). Very frustrating.

LimitIsUp · 25/09/2018 09:19

I've been repeatedly hitting the space bar to get a paragraph

whistl · 25/09/2018 09:28

It is annoying, and a lack of paragraphs make things difficult to read. Do MN want people to write short posts, like tweets??
On a different subject, it is nearly time for thread 20. Any name ideas?

Terf2Terf · 25/09/2018 09:35

I'm using the app on my iPhone. Sometimes on the iPad.

I can paragraph...

Also the app doesn't have annoying ads.

Is the app not available on Android? Or are you all sitting at PCs?

AlexanderHamilton · 25/09/2018 09:40

I'm at a pc at the moment but I found the app doesn;t work very well on my phone.

eaglefly · 25/09/2018 09:48

I use the app too but still get an add at the bottom.

DD settling into the year and doing what she can to stay on top of the work as much as she can. She is exhausted though.

LimitIsUp · 25/09/2018 10:01

I noticed the problem on my pc. I haven't tried on my phone yet - will have a go and see if the same applies

AlexanderHamilton · 25/09/2018 10:01

I think

it is working now.

whistl · 25/09/2018 10:03

I use the app on an ipad but its got another recently-developed problem because it has started to jump when typing (so one minute you can see the box to write the post in, and the next minute you are down in the footer links).

So, now I am using the laptop.

Hey' the return ket works again!

PS Get AdBlock to avoid those irritating popups and ads all over the place. The only thing it doesn't stop is videos that cover the text in the right hand corner of various news sites

OP posts:
BlueBelle123 · 25/09/2018 10:21

Just clicked on annoying ads to see if I could block, when finished up pops an ad for specsavers, clearly haven't done it, so obviously I need glasses Grin

whistl · 25/09/2018 10:29

If you are using adblock in a browser, click on the red octagon with a white hand in the middle. Then the drop down menu will appear. select "Block an ad on this page" and follow the instructions for pointing out the ad (just drag the slider along until they disappear. then click the "Looks Good" button. (PS the return key isn't working again)

I’ve just had one of those “calling about your accident” calls from a woman with a home counties accent. I get plagued with them a bit, so I decided to string them along this time. I quickly got transferred to someone called John Hopkins who had quite a strong Indian accident.
JH: When was your accident?
Me: yesterday
Him: Was it your fault?
Me: No, well, maybe a bit.
Him: What happened?
Me: I dropped a box of eggs on the kitchen floor. But it wasn’t my fault.
Him: And how many people were involved in the accident?
Me: Only me.
Him: Was there any damage?
Me: Yes, the eggs were smashed.
Him: How did you feel after the accident?
Me: Annoyed. I had to clean up.
Him: You had to clean up?
Me; Yes, it made a mess and nobody else was going to clean the floor.
Him: Can I take your car registration number?
Me: What has a car got to do with it?
Him: Was your car involved?
Me: No, I don’t have a car.
Him: Does anyone else in your household have a car?
Me: No.
Him: (irritated) Well then, I can’t help you. (Then he hung up!).
