Dd’s first day at the sixth form Grammar.
She absolutely loved it. I am relieved

GettinTrimmer · 04/09/2018 20:43

Found you! Seems a little odd to be posting on a further education thread.

Another week to go for my ds

areyoubeingserviced great to hear your dd had a good day

Terf well done on your new job!

Stickerrocks · 04/09/2018 20:56

I think I must has cross posted with no. 1001. I'm here.

I know that we've o my just finished GCSEs, but this evening I booked a post A level cruise for DD and I for July 2020. She's got 21 months to pull her finger out and deserve it!

Stickerrocks · 04/09/2018 20:58

My 1001st post was cheering Terf on. I'm now celebrating on her behalf with Wine.

ShalomJackie · 04/09/2018 21:02

Yes Probably - He said Alice so I put Alice Testing in and it came up with Alice Heim so I made an assumption. I will look at ALIS now! Thanks

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 04/09/2018 21:07

My DSs did Midyas and Yellis tests. Alis is a new one on me. All CEM tests, as is the local 11+ test.

ShalomJackie · 04/09/2018 21:12

Yes - DS did Midyis.

ALIS is CEM too but a "predictor" for A level results.

Cherryburn · 04/09/2018 21:19

DS did Midyis. I hope they don’t give him the Alis test tomorrow...let’s just say I don’t think the long lay off has sharpened him up!

KingscoteStaff · 04/09/2018 21:24

We had an entire dinner of ‘and then the Philosophy Master said but what if you could save 5 people by killing one and I said it depended who the one person was and Ben said surely you should be willing to sacrifice yourself to save the five people and Harry said that self preservation was a natural instinct and I said that not doing something good wasn’t as bad as doing something evil etc etc’

I think he’s going to enjoy his Philosophy course...

Cherryburn · 04/09/2018 21:35

Kingscote DD did Philosophy A Level. You’ll hear a lot of that over the next 2 years. By the end I was rather glad it was over Grin

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/09/2018 21:38

DS2 has his Maths readiness-for-A-level test tomorrow.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 04/09/2018 21:51

Checking in to the new thread and new board. New term already Shock

Dd isn't back until next Monday. Most of her friends went back to school sixth form today so she's at a bit of a loose end now.

It's lovely to hear of all your dc starting their new courses.

sandybayley · 04/09/2018 21:53

DS1's contribution tonight was that EVERYTHING we learnt in GCSE chemistry was as wrong but it's OK they're going to teach us the right stuff for A Level.

He's thinking about Chemistry at Uni. I resisted the temptation of suggesting that the same thing might be said at his first Chemistry lecture one day!

androbbob · 04/09/2018 21:59

Evening all - long summer break over and wow we have been upgraded from 'Senior' to 'Further' Education Grin. Do we have to act all grown up too?!

DD at NCS graduation tonight - due home soon and then school (sorry sixth form) starts tomorrow at 9.30 with an induction day. DS also starts at high school tomorrow (yr 7), so two big starts!

I have just emailed school about getting her scores for the AQA subjects that she did, so she can see where she was in the grade boundaries - purely for interest not out of any concern. Hope they are quick in responding!

BlueBelle123 · 04/09/2018 22:15

Thanks for the new thread whistl, I noticed your name on a letter today I thought it looked familiar!

androb I was wondering that as well, not sure I'm ready to be a grown up Grin

DS's first day went well, didn't actually do anything more a case of registering for the subjects, lessons start tomorrow or though he still doesn't have a timetable so not sure how that's going to workHmm He seemed most concerned about where in the common room he would be sitting!

Oratory1 · 04/09/2018 22:23

DS has induction and team building/getting to know you tomorrow and lessons start on Thursday.

Theworldisfullofgs · 04/09/2018 22:24

Dd starts on Friday with two half induction days. I'm tempted to ring them like a reception mother saying..."she can cope"....

We're doing a practice theoretical getting there run tomorrow. She knows how to get there but it's coordination ds's train with her bus. (We live in the sticks...)

JufusMum · 04/09/2018 22:26

Thanks for the new thread. DD starts Sixth Form on Thursday. Still no school bag. DD too fussy.
Head teacher at School From Hell was "asked to leave". No surprise there.

Cherryburn · 05/09/2018 07:32

DS has just left for his first day back. Have to say, much as I dislike the concept of ‘business dress’ for sixth form, he did look very smart in his suit!

Hope all the DC have a good day.

Theworldisfullofgs · 05/09/2018 07:51

jufus is she looking for a particular bag?

Dd got a kanken bag in the sale. Still eyewatering though.
Apparently they are uber cool and last forever.

I'm just relieved she's got over using a glorified handbag...

AChickenCalledKorma · 05/09/2018 08:32

DD1 is off for her first full day. Induction day yesterday seems to have been a bit chaotic. She was exhausted and stressed last night and I think was suffering from sensory overload. Common room too noisy and too many new things going on. I'm now really glad she didn't move to a new sixth form which would have been three times the size and about a million percent more "different".

Today she has double further maths, physics and two study periods. So she should be a bit more in her comfort zone.

How are your kids' timetables looking? DD has 9 lessons per fortnight per subject which seems quite good to me.

sandybayley · 05/09/2018 08:42

@AChickenCalledKorma - DS1 has 6 x 40m lessons a week per subject, which = 4 hours. So 16 hours of teaching per week for the four subjects. I have no idea if that's a lot or not much - sounds as I'd expect it I think!

DS has 6 or 7 (2 week timetable) 45 minute periods per week. So an average of 5 hours per week per subject.

How do you do it eaglefly?

Stickerrocks · 05/09/2018 10:35

John Lewis had some Kanken in their sale. We got one in Norway and another on results day as a treat. Appreciate were also doing a discount voucher for them.
