They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

Thank you hesmylobster, just looked at it and all unis want the exact same. My thinking is if they’ve interviewed her and offered a place I still think they’d rather give a place to someone they’ve met who maybe missed by one grade as they’d be offering her place to someone who probably had the same grade as her but not known.
If she’s missed by more than one grade today I said she’d have to re-sit and one year out of her life will not be a disaster. Felt we had to have one conversation about what we’d do but I obviously hope we don’t have to do that but at least that’s our plan b I guess.
Thank you, even putting this all into words has helped me calm down!

Janus · 13/08/2018 01:07

It’s radiography, anything nhs related has interviews now I think, like nursing, midwifery etc as being able to communicate is a big part of the daily life in nhs.

HesMyLobster · 13/08/2018 01:14

Wow, what a fantastic field to get into. I imagine extremely challenging but very interesting. Hopefully like you said, once they've invested the time to interview, and decided they want somebody it would make sense that they will still take them even with the odd dropped grade.
I'm rooting for her (and you!) I have a good feeling!

Janus · 13/08/2018 01:26

Thank you Lobster! I’m very touched by your kind words and thank you for calming me at this ridiculous hour! Good luck for you and dd too.

HesMyLobster · 13/08/2018 02:26

Thankyou Janus
Well, I managed to sleep for an hour before waking up again!
I think this pattern will probably continue until Thursday Confused
So anybody in need of nocturnal handholds - I'll be here!

Just spotted this report which is interesting reading - the first I think since this year's results have been "known"

Well it is THAT week now.

My positive thoughts and best wishes are with you and all of your dc.

Although ds has his results I am feeling kind of invested in all of your dc results! So will be checking here furiously on Thursday from our holiday in NYC.

I have helped guide one of ds friends who does not have much home support. He was a near miss and has been “on hold” by his firm since early July! Not sure if he will find out pre Thursday of if his decision will be uploaded with all the A level ones on Thursday morning. He has a good insurance and exceeded their offer BUT really wants his firm (like them all I guess :))).

So although my ds will not be getting results in Thursday I am also counting the days.

I hope the next 3 days fly past :)

Three more sleeps/sleepless nights

I think A level students & parents are recogniseable in the street by the bags under their eyes!

DD2 has said she wants to do the track refreshing on her own. which is fine. She alternates between quiet confidence and a Private Frazer 'We're doomed!'. Wednesday night is going to be a long one I think.

2gorgeousboys · 13/08/2018 06:48

Morning everyone! Another sleepless night of tossing and turning here too. It's my first day back at work today after 2 weeks off as well (thankfully it's a short week as I'm off Thursday and Friday).

One of DS's best friends is off to Luxembourg today for a year as an Au Pair so he was out for a few drinks yesterday evening and seemed more relaxed last night than he has in ages. I on the other hand drank wine and worried with DH.

I've just made the mistake of looking at that Guardian link which helpfully has a count down clock of days, minutes, hours and seconds to results 🤤

starfleet · 13/08/2018 07:23

Not much sleep here either. What I have been getting has been interspersed with odd dreams.

Good Luck to all this week using whatever coping mechanisms you have. Mine is Brew lots and lots of Brew

UrsulaPandress · 13/08/2018 07:54

I'm in Anglesey in the rain. The sea is very calming.

PandaG · 13/08/2018 08:03

Broken sleep here last night too. 3 more (and 10 more!) 'sleeps' to go!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 08:03

I've got raging earache and feel totally pants. Trying to be all upbeat when I just want to crawl into bed.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 13/08/2018 08:22

kitten that is pants! Hope you feel better soon.

Ursula please send some calming sea sounds this way please! Trying to remember to exhale at the moment - do you think they do gas & air for this week? Wouldn't that be wonderful!

Janus welcome Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 08:43

Thanks Lashings.

We've started back at the beginning of Big Bang Theory this morning. That means we have 4 days, 9 hours and 36 minutes worth of BBT to get us through. We could have started it yesterday morning and been ok. Grin

Had very little sleep, but from asthma / viral wheeze rather than results anxiety. Used inhalers then went to bed early, but still woke up coughing, wheezing and breathless at 12ish, 2ish and 4ish. To say I'm tired would be an understatement.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/08/2018 08:50

Your posts resonate with me Janus as DD only turned 18 three weeks ago. She hasn't had much experience of "going out on the lash" either, but made up for it last week, by going out 3 times. Last time she went out her friend had far too much to drink so DD spent all evening looking after her.

Interestingly DD has been looking at diagnostic radiography as well. She applied for medicine and put radiography as her 5th choice and received an immediate rejection. I suspect the university saw that the personal statement said "I want to be a doctor" and decided that they didn't want to be the last choice ahead of students who really wanted to take the course in the first place. I didn't realise that they interviewed for this. DD is very timid and has social anxiety and wouldn't interview well.

Her medicine applications were unsuccessful (which I am quite relieved about), so she is now looking at radiography and biomed again for 2019 entry.

I hope your DD is successful.

I am a little apprehensive for DD's results, but seem to be the calmest on this thread as nothing is hinging on her results this year.

Good luck to everyone's DC BTW.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/08/2018 08:50

I hope you feel better soon TheThird Flowers

Hoveringhobbit · 13/08/2018 08:56

Disturbed sleep here too - my dreams have become decidedly weirder over the last week. Last night, for instance DS and I couldn't get his results due to crocodiles, a barista festival (!), a town-wide internet failure and a police cordon around the school.

We had found the secret passage way into the school and, just as we were finally going to find out the dreaded results, DDog woke me up barking at Phil the Pheasant, who stands on the garden walls and taunts her daily.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 08:56

That sounds horrid TheThird. I hope you feel better soon.

We have finally come up with a flow chart for Thursday. It started out like a spider's web, but we have now narrowed it down to "If you have your insurance, or are in clearing, and are less than three UMS below the grade boundary for the mark you missed, ring the next better offer and beg/cry/blather - and if that isnt working tell them you are getting a priority 2 re-mark and ask if they will consider you if that is successful. We had exactly one day (yesterday) when she was at home this month to make this plan. Now she has gone off for another theatre production, where she will give it not second's thought, and I am just trying to remember to breathe.

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/08/2018 09:07

At least the subconscious training is preparing you for every eventuality. Smile

Bakeandyarn · 13/08/2018 09:11

Another night of tossing and turning here too, anyone else feeling slightly sick too? I found one of the newspaper websites (might have been The Times) had a very helpful (!) countdown clock to results day, why would they do that to us? That’s an interesting article lobster, it would only seem fair to this years cohort, I think the general consensus among DS and his friends is that this year was tougher for them and their teachers as there was so much content.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 13/08/2018 09:17

Hope you get some catch up sleep somehow TheThird Vivid nightmares haven't kicked in yet for me, but waking up in between sleeps has - roll on Thursday in the longest week EVER!

Janus · 13/08/2018 09:33

Lonicera, diagnostic too. I think what really swung it for mine was that she did a week’s work experience in hospital in radiography so it showed it was only that that was her future job. The hospital were brilliant with her, put her in a different setting each day, A&E, baby ultrasounds, MRI, minor injuries, children’s ward etc. It meant she could really talk about it at interview and she got offers from all unis, shame they don’t do unconditional offers!! I would definitely look into work experience, i think most hospitals have a ‘work experience’ department and really want to nurture anyone who comes in.
Finally fell asleep at 2 and up again at 8, no wild dreams thank goodness!
I need to get dd some experience of ‘going out on the lash’ in early September!!

LoniceraJaponica · 13/08/2018 09:47

How did your DD go about getting the experience Janus?
