They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

I secretly love it when DD gets in bed with me. I went to bed early last night as she said we could watch Handmaid's on my iPad but she had fallen asleep. I was gutted.

Hope your DD feels better soon Lobster

GnomeDePlume · 06/08/2018 21:00

I am afraid the first bout of illness is likely to come early on. Not just freshers excesses but freshers' flu is a thing. DD1 had a cold or flu for months. It's like starting school all over again. A whole new group of people with viruses to share.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2018 21:02

I've already got the freshers flu kit sorted.

Welcome slarty I'm not on the limbo bench (DD did BTECs), but I'll be round shortly with a selection of biscuits to keep you all going

Lobster wishing your DD a speedy recovery

Hello - I'm a late arrival here though I lurked and dipped in a bit during exams. I'm sorry to hear about various sicknesses and health worries. It's not good feeling ill in hot weather or as big transitions loom.

My A level and GCSE DC are away this week with their Dad but suddenly it dawned on me that results roll in next week and the week after.

My DD has an unconditional place for Art foundation but I'm still hoping for a good Art result and her other subjects. The examiners asked for her final pieces a week after school ended - not for invigilation, they'd already done marking but for teacher/student guidance materials. We are hoping they don't want samples for how to get a D! But she did a weak project and the portfolio is patchy.....

DS is awaiting GCSEs the week after and they matter for entry to 6th form and A level choices - it could be tricky for one or two of his choices but hopefully not all. He's got a special scholarship for Maths (with the right grades) but some of his other subjects could be touch and go. And we are sure of alternative subject choices.

Starting to get edgy.

UrsulaPandress · 06/08/2018 21:49

IT'S NEXT WEEK!!!!

NEXT WEEK

Aaaaargh.

Downeyhouse · 06/08/2018 21:54

Feeling for you all in limbo.

Funnily in my head despite not being in limbo (results came over a month ago) I don’t want to start preparing stuff for him to go to Uni until the A level results are out.

Bit like Christmas - the dc make me wait until 1 December before getting the decorations out! But now the starting point for shopping is when A level results are out.

Smile
Downeyhouse · 06/08/2018 21:55

Welcome bouledeneige - are you French?

Definitelyrandom · 06/08/2018 22:06

I remember milk in bags hung out of the window....DS2 with a robust requirement is getting distinctly tetchy. Luckily he stayed at his GFs for a few days; DH and I are going away; GF is coming to stay and then we have only a day at home before results.....

LoveBeingAMum555 · 06/08/2018 22:10

Oh my days why did I start reading this? DS goes off to Racing College in October to fulfill his life's dream (horses). He will drive down there on the MOTORWAY on his own and be away for six whole months but then if he does well he might get a job in Newmarket (another dream) and then when will I see him. I am not (repeat not) one of those clinging mummies. I have brought him up to be strong and independent and I want him to see the world.

But I have been telling myself October is a long way away and its not. It really isn't.

UrsulaPandress · 06/08/2018 22:17

Oh how exciting! Racing College!!

I wanted DD to go to the RAC to do some sort of pony patting course but she wasn't having any of it.

Tell me more about Racing College.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 06/08/2018 22:27

Ursula he wants to be a work rider, riding highly strung racehorses very very fast. He has also been told he has the right skills to be a jump jockey which is even more dangerous. He was never going to sit behind a desk and has worked really hard at his equine apprenticeship and volunteered at local stables in exchange for riding lessons.

So my boy is not only leaving home but going off to do something physically very risky too. I haven't got my head around it all yet.

UrsulaPandress · 06/08/2018 22:36

Aw he will love it. Is he slight? I was reading at the weekend how the uk racing industry is struggling to find lightweight riders as we are getting bigger as a nation. And quicker than places like Italy and Spain.

We have a highly strung self harming failed ex racer.

Knittinganewme · 07/08/2018 08:36

Hello LoveBeingAMum, I'm so glad you've stopped by because it's nice to hear of other career paths. October is a long, long time away. I'm pretty sure that the calendar stops at August 16th, I'm certainly finding it difficult to think of anything after then.

Ursula how is the wonder horse? (as in "I wonder what he is going to do next?")

UrsulaPandress · 07/08/2018 09:06

He's still not allowed to go out unless the mares are in so it's only been a few afternoons. And he always seems happy to come back in (gallops to the gate if not already there). He has a dressage competition onThursday evening so I am expecting an incident soon. He randomly fell over the other day when I was chatting to the farrier.

It is lovely to hear of a totally different career path.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2018 09:09

Welcome LoveBeingAMum :)

How exciting for your ds. Will he be home for Christmas?

(ok Chris Rheas song popped up in my head as I typed that and it made tears prick at the back of my eyes. argh.)

UrsulaPandress · 07/08/2018 09:16

I'm already thinking about delaying the putting up of the tree until she comes home.

HardwickWhite · 07/08/2018 09:29

OYBBK that was an awful thing to do. I do love that song and it is now in a loop in my head. It is going to be over 30 degrees here today and I have a Christmas song putting a spring in my step Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2018 09:40

oops. Sorry Hardwick. Now we share the same ear worm Grin

I think that's a good idea Ursula, so it doesn't feel like Christmas has started without them.

Signing back in to join limbo bench. What happens on "The day that is getting nearer" won't really affect the limbo much.
We are trying to keep cool at the caravan.
Internet very slow so short post.

HardwickWhite · 07/08/2018 12:22

I’ve just seen over on Scotsnet that lots of them had ucas track offers changed to unconditional a few days ago. I wonder if that might happen to us too. 😱

Nettleskeins · 07/08/2018 13:45

we've left ds1 by himself for three days. With lots of very strict instructions about fires and being locked out, otherwise I don#t really care what he does to the premises..(it was dirty when I left so hopefully he will have done the washing up)

It is one of those real mental blocks I have, leaving him in the house alone so I hope this get me used to losing control!!!. So far he has rung once a day to reassure me. Usually when it was very inconvenient....like when I'm asleep and he's awake..

Berlin is wonderful. The children have been swimming in lakes. I'm hoping dd will become a lake ecologist/expert so pushing her to do geography A level. Ds2 is fretting about the German Revolution of 1918 as a prelude to Weimar topic.

back tomorrow. hope by then the wretched Trinity results for Grade 8 have been delivered...Hmm So slow!! They said they posted them on Thursday.
