All welcome no matter which path your dc have chosen.

starfleet I think all you can do is keep reassuring him that all is not lost. Grade boundaries will reflect the difficulty of the paper. This paper is not an indicator of what will be in the next paper.

Bekabeech · 05/06/2018 17:25

Just thought I would pop in to encourage anyone having a bad time- ours is disastrous!
DD in tears. Has been having panic attacks instead of revising, and hiding it. We're trying for special consideration, and she actually won't be sitting most exams. But even if she just has 2 ASs from this its something.
She's calmer now decisions have been made, and is thinking about what next.

marmiteloversunite · 05/06/2018 17:38

Bekabeech I'm so sorry for you and your DD. Tough times. Hopefully she will feel better now she has told you. Have you thought about hypnotherapy? My DD2 has this for anxiety and it helped a lot. Early days but it might be worth trying in the future. Sending best wishes your way!

TheThirdOfHerName · 05/06/2018 18:05

Bekabeech sorry to hear that your DD has been having such a hard time

NoHaudinMaWheest · 05/06/2018 18:06

starfleet and bekabeech I am sorry to hear that things aren't going well.
It doesn't feel like it at the moment, I am sure, but there are always ways through.

starfleet · 05/06/2018 18:07

Bekabeech - I hope your DD is feeling more positive. So sorry to hear what a tough time she has been going through.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/06/2018 18:20

Bekabeech that's so tough :( Your poor dd, there's too much pressure on them.

Starfleet, is he the sort you can distract until the feelings subside a bit? It's horrible.

dd is much happier tonight. No rhyme nor reason. Maths again tomorrow.

Petalflowers · 05/06/2018 18:23

Grrrr, co,e on here to,let,or steam. Dc is doing NO work, tonight, because he has revised ‘all day’ at school, today, and doesn’t have an exam until,Thursday. I feel my heckles, raising. Why can’t he spend even an hour going over weaker parts of something?!

Bekabeech · 05/06/2018 18:25

DD has a very good therapist. She will survive, but take a very different route.
She has thanked us for supporting her - which is really nice.

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2018 18:26

Sorry to hear things not going well.

Slight meltdown here as finally turned the horse out (I know you've all been worrying) and he promptly galloped off towards his girlfriend and threw a shoe. It is all my fault of course. He will now be lame for the rest of the summer and I've ruined everything.

I was going to make a quip about not being able to blame exam performance on a lost shoe, and then I remembered the proverb about the kingdom lost for the want of a nail and thought I'd better keep schtum.

starfleet · 05/06/2018 18:32

Ursula - why I read that as your DD losing a shoe in the second part of your post I have no idea!

OYBBK - his new Nigeria football shirt has turned up so that made him happy. Material distractions and all that. He's also just had a chat with my DB so feeling a bit better.

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2018 18:36

Don't get me started on DDs shoes.

she is a size 9 and it is nigh on impossible to get what she wants

chocolateworshipper · 05/06/2018 18:37

Big hugs, chocolate and alcohol to everyone and their DCs who had difficult exams. The point about lower grade boundaries for difficult exams is a good one. Also in life, there is often more than one route to get to where you want to get to. Exams are really hard for a lot of people, which is why apprenticeships are such a good option for some people - especially as there are higher level and even degree apprenticeships available now.

Nettleskeins · 05/06/2018 19:00

grrr Ursula, but it sounds like he was going to do something rash anyway whatever, at least he didn't throw your dd, the most important thing of all! I'm sure it cheered her up getting angry and letting tension spill forth HmmSmile

well ds1 is still continuing suspiciously calm and dithery and asking what is for supper in a cheery manner. sigh.

Bekabeech that is a such a blessed relief to have made the decision, I think this year is such a pressured one, it is difficult to think clearly until you stop and then ....there is so many other wonderful ways to go forward. Teachers only know what they know they are trained to teach A levels not life choices, it is difficult for them to give proper advice and open up those different possiblities.

My friend's daughter detached herself from A levels nearly at the end of the course and at first it was a case of oh you should have done them anyway, but then after a bit of time she started rethinking her plans, got a job, and it never felt like a missed opportunity (not taking the Alevels)more like a weight that had been lifted. No failure just postponement. Light returning to a dark oppressive place that had been her sense of anxiety during the exams.

everyone has different ways of getting through.

Nettleskeins · 05/06/2018 19:02

ursula now I am imagining your dd in lucky silver horse shoes

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2018 19:09

We are a desert when it comes to luck.

HesMyLobster · 05/06/2018 19:10

Oh Ursula I'm so sorry to hear of more horse trouble! Like Nettles said though, it could have been worse - at least your DD is unscathed.
I'll take you up on the gin, thankyou!

Knitting excellent tip about the locks, I'll remember that, thankyou.

Bekabeech I'm sorry your DD has been through such a tough time. It must be such a relief for her now that decisions have been made. I hope she feels better very soon.Flowers

Well Done to all who had Chem today, so glad to hear of those that found it ok, and so sad to hear of those who didn't - Hopefully it's not as bad as they think.

I'll need this gin to get me through another night of asking questions on USA History. (For the last time ever though - hooray!)

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2018 19:14

History (Germany) for DD tomorrow. Hitler. Again. She has done him so many times and can't wait to get rid of him once and for all.

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/06/2018 19:51

History (Tudors) here.

Sorry about your horse Ursula.

Beka your daughter is very lucky to have such support round her

marmiteloversunite · 05/06/2018 19:59

History here. Germany. My DD is very bored of Hitler too!!

LoniceraJaponica · 05/06/2018 20:07

DD said chemistry was OK.
Commiserations to those whose DC found it difficult.
Hugs and Flowers to everyone finding it hard right now - starfleet, bekabeech, Ursula, and anyone else I might have missed.

DD said she was more nervous about chemistry today than she was about geography yesterday, and felt extremely sick this morning.

No exams tomorrow so we went for an early curry for some proper time out. Now she is sat on the settee on her phone instead of doing some work (grr).

Thesearepearls · 05/06/2018 20:22

DS said Chemistry was okay too. He's a bit worried about a further maths paper tomorrow - FP2 - he says things can just go awry before you know it.

Keep chins up everyone!

LoniceraJaponica · 05/06/2018 20:42

The geography folder has come out now. By Friday evening DD won't have to do any more geography again, unless she changes her mind and does something with it at university.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/06/2018 20:55

Ursula, that horse!!!!!

OP posts:
PandaG · 05/06/2018 21:12

Congratulations and commiserations all round, depending on how they went. DS reasonably happy with chem today I think, but it is hard to tell.
Beka thanks, it is so good to be reminded there are other pathways if the first one doesn't work out.

M3 maths here tomorrow, self taught. He is much better at mech than stats, so decided to sit an extra paper to possibly give himself a bit of flexibility. He is very self motivated.
DD on the other hand...you would think doing dismally in history mock would have prompted serious revision? Nope, cramming at last minute instead...we have covered a quarter of Friday's paper in 2 hours this afternoon, I'm hoping we can cram the rest in tomorrow and Thursday...
