Oh wow Second. Sounds like it's a good job security were there - very well handled.

DD has mentioned people from school taking ketamine a few times recently (people I never would have imagined doing such things, I was quite shocked) it's scary how it seems to be becoming very widespread and normalised from what she and DD2 say.

Nettleskeins · 25/02/2018 16:42

Fantasy my friend's son was in the Harrow halls (Westminster), and he went to boarding school; I don't think HH was anything like boarding school (old and venerable one in countryside) which was why he loved it at Westminster!!! His mum said that even when she showed him Oxford he ran a mile as it architecturally felt like school. I know someone else whose son was miserable at Essex, it felt a long way from London and he became very homesick for his city life..

atm ds doesn't have a city life at all, here in the suburbs I think "London" is considerably diluted, moving to a small city may be more glamorous for him than staying in London close to home. Also the expense of living central puts us off; and if he didn't live central he might as well live at home...

Those of you with DCs doing A levels - what is the date of the last exam? Am thinking about booking a Center Parcs villa for DD and some friends as a combined 18th birthday and end of education celebration, but some of her friends are doing A levels so won't be finished quite as early as her with her BTECs.

Icouldbeknitting · 25/02/2018 17:18

Center Parcs - I'd read the terms and conditions very carefully before booking. I think that the person booking has to be there and they require a responsible adult (over 21) per villa.

derekthe1adyhamster · 25/02/2018 17:30

Maths always seems to be of the last exams.usually the last week in June. Will they let a bunch of 18 year olds go alone? I have to admit it would have been my idea of hell to be next door to their villa with my young family Grin

chocolateworshipper · 25/02/2018 17:42

Oh I assumed that it would be over 18s. Thanks for the tip - I'll double check.

FantasyAndHope · 25/02/2018 17:46

Dd liked it as it was modern from her school she wants to commute to uni so it isn’t like school,
Dd has done Boarding school life so is used to been away from home and doesn’t get homesick the only thing she misses about home is a comfy bed and tv not the actual people (poor me, haha)

Dd looked at some and it felt very much like school like Essex where it had all the facilities on site, she wasn’t keen on Nottingham either for a similar reason

Cost of living is a worry but she’s sensible and hates having less than £100 in her bank and she is good with money now. But it does worry me a lot

Last exam here is 18th June and she’s having a week or 2 off and then working full time so she can save for London and because she will be glad to not see her immature ‘friends’ although I’d rather call them acquaintances

HesMyLobster · 25/02/2018 19:17

DD's last exam is I think the 20th or 21st of June and I'm sure she said it was the last one there is.
I've got the timetable somewhere so I'll double check.

That sounds like a brilliant idea Chocolate, DD would love that!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 19:25

Dds exams go right to the last week of June. 25th I think.

OP posts:
FantasyAndHope · 25/02/2018 19:36

I thought dd had it bad with the 18th but the 20/25th Shock
Dds teachers were saying there so crammed together because of the issues of scrapping As grades

starfleet · 25/02/2018 20:16

DS's last exam is on 22nd June.

raspberryrippleicecream · 25/02/2018 20:46

DD's is 22nd June also. I think Further Maths go on later, certainly they did DS1's year

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 21:25

It is a late finish, dds exams start on 16th May. She seems to have something like 15 or 16 exams. It's like GCSE all over again.

Kitten
Is think my son finishes, the day your dd's exams start. He has 13 exams in total as he took one subject early.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 07:11

That feels slightly odd Shanghai Grin
It does feel as if we go right to the bitter end.

doistayordoigo · 26/02/2018 07:28

DS is doing Further Maths and his last exam is 25th June. He starts on 16th May too, so quite a long stretched out period...in fact after the one on 16th May he doesn't have another one for nearly two weeks, which seems very odd.

FantasyAndHope · 26/02/2018 07:32

Dd starts 5th June she has a lot of exams Sad

raspberryrippleicecream · 26/02/2018 08:17

DD's AS exams were over a much wider period than her friends last year. It was Maths that was the culprit. The AS exams were May and A2 in June. DD's school was a different board to her friends and she also did units that were usually A2 so went on longer. That's how it was explained to me!

MrSlant · 26/02/2018 13:28

I have no idea when or how many DS' exams are Blush. I'm guessing less than most of your children as we still do AS in Wales so he's got that in the bag. And art is 15 hours over three days before the main bulk of the exams. Or after, one of the two.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:31

Maths is the culprit here for the very extended period and the daft number of exams, especially as dd is doing extra because, well why not Confused

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 26/02/2018 13:52

I'm with you MrSlant not really quite sure when or what exams. He may have told me, he certainly has not given me a precise timetable. He seems to be more focused on the date of his Grade 8. He told me he couldn't leave school till it was finished in July. which is a bit daft...surely he will allow himself to consider himself graduated before then? (only one music lesson a week...perhaps he is going to continue in orchestra etc?)

UrsulaPandress · 26/02/2018 14:15

DDs first exam is 4th June and last on 19th June. They seem very crammed in.

janinlondon · 26/02/2018 15:27

DD has exams 21 May to 19 June. Arrgggh. Presumably also has to cram an ABRSM ARSM exam in there too....!

chocolateworshipper · 26/02/2018 18:19

I don't know if I feel more sorry for the DCs with lots of exams crammed together or those who have endless weeks of exams.

knitting - you were absolutely right about CP. Thank you for warning me - I don't always read the Ts & Cs! I have found an alternative - they could have a chalet near the sea. I'm going to check with her whether she wants this or a flashy night out with limo etc - but I definitely like the idea of her having a combined 18th and end of education celebration (not least because it will get her to stop moaning about some of her friends not being 18 by her birthday)

flatmouse · 26/02/2018 18:20

Applicants day done, confirmed choice and hopefully encouraged better study! Student finance approved, and accommodation applied for.
Just needs to work!
