How long left for you all?

Just wondering how long left till your DH/DPs leave the forces. We've got 5 years left and as of December, 1 sea draft left (touch all things woody)!

We've talked (atleast once a month) about him leaving early but the pension is too good to loose now.

we have at least another 13 years to go he signed for his 22 years and i don't see him doing anything else

cali · 16/09/2008 21:37

At least another 12 years + for us.

If dh gets his promotions then it could even be longer, he might stay in until he is due to retire. He's only 32!

kerryk · 16/09/2008 21:39

10 years left of his 22 but he signed up for a extra 2 last year.

cant imagine him getting out even 1 hour early.

SmallShips · 16/09/2008 21:42

so alot of signing on again? My DH is 35 and been in since 16, i think (if i let him) will sign on for more. I dont think he could do "civvie" TBH.

DH has just under 5 left to do but will extend if offered. Like your DH SmallShips my DH joined at 17, and I don't think he can imagine doing anything else!

SmallShips · 16/09/2008 22:08

I'm not looking forward to dealing with the fallout of him leaving, i was only in for 5 years and the reality shock of becoming a civvie again was huge.

10 months!!!!!! Arggggggggggggggggg he will be home all the time (after being away on the road 9 months of the year for the last 16 years) what WILL I do!

kerryk · 17/09/2008 07:47

send him to the oilrigs theconfusedone.

one of my friends from school is on the rigs and i have made him promise me he will get dh a job when he leaves

FourArms · 17/09/2008 07:49

DH has as long as they'll have him for. He's only 30 now, so a good few years yet. My Dad turns 55 next year, but has got an extension of service, so he'll have done 35 years plus by the time he leaves.

My FIL had a bit of a mid-life crisis when he left after 30-ish years, so I think my mum wants to keep my dad in as long as possible!

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 08:00

KK my ex did that

Actaually the plan is for the prison service, but he has been offered a dream job, building motorbike (ala American Chopper) which he will find all the details of next week so if that comes off we will be off to Oxfordshire!

And possibly as soon as March next year, as he is off the road in November, will go do the White Helmets training for the new guys next Feb, and that will be it, onto resettlement, so could go then to the new job!!!!!

flossie64 · 17/09/2008 14:27

My Dh has done 22yrs so far and signed on til he's 55. Sometimes I think i would love him to be out but I know theres not much call for navigators in civvy street
I think he do have an option at 44 but there is no way he would take it.
My exh ,was away on the rigs and to be honest I used to wish he wouldn't come home, even when he was away fo 5 out of 6 chrismas's with my son.

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 15:25

Flossie, my brother is a nav on the nimrods!

Romy7 · 17/09/2008 17:25

pensionable already - depends if he gets offered a job this afternoon lol. although JPA has him serving until the day before his 55th.
we all rolled on the floor laughing when we read that last night.

nell12 · 17/09/2008 17:45

DH has done 17 years so far, 19 years to go, more if he gets promoted.

jcscot · 17/09/2008 18:20

My husband has five years until his initial pension point (16yrs service) but as he's on a Reg C, he'll be in until he's at least 55 (21 yrs fromm now!).

flossie64 · 17/09/2008 18:32

TheConfusedOne- my dh was on nimrods he flys a desk at High Wycombe at the mo.
What sqdn is your brother on .Mind you, he's probably too young for us to know .

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 19:09

Doubt it DB is 51, (so a Old Bugger) he has just got back from Afghanistan and is based at Whittering, not sure if he is 51 or 54 Sqd.

he is a Sqd Leader Initials SP.

flossie64 · 17/09/2008 19:23

My Dh was on 201,up at kinloss . He was Nav leader in his last job there. Then went to AWC at Waddo . He just got promoted while down at HW and is now working for 2group.
wish he could work nearer home tho we are near Lincoln.

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 19:26

DB was at Kinloss in the 80's and lives at Scampton, they have their own house just outside the gates.

flossie64 · 17/09/2008 19:31

Bloody hell this gets spookier. we live at saxilby just about 3miles away.
He doesn't like in the old Station Commanders house does he ? I know that is 1 that is privately owed.
My Dh started up at Kinloss on 120 in 86

flossie64 · 17/09/2008 19:32

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 19:37

TheConfusedOne · 17/09/2008 19:38
