The house we've been allocated now has half its garden given over to an Astroturf football pitch full of sweary teenagers - and apparently there's a drug problem too!
Am getting advice from BT on other places to live

You do have the right to refuse a property don't you?

At least I remember refusing one. But the guy who showed us around was embarassed to even SHOW it, si I don't think he was surprised!

Scootergrrrl · 19/05/2008 18:36

We have been in and turned it down flat - on the grounds that while we were looking round, a football nearly hit DS, who's 2, on the head and that I don't want his first sentence to contain several four-letter words.
I'm scared they're going to make to live in a box now though

Good Luck. You can turn quarters down but there is a limit on how many or something....

MuchLessTiredNow · 04/06/2008 22:10

sorry love, have been away for a bit. Go up to the musical patch. ring me - 05221 3420299.

Scootergrrrl · 05/06/2008 12:10

No worries - it's all sorted now. We've got a house near where Mrs BT used to live so handy for trams and camp etc. And also for popping over for lunch if you're working in the barracks of course

MuchLessTiredNow · 05/06/2008 13:33

fantastic - that's a lovely patch and very handy for the tram! Do you have a date yet?

Scootergrrrl · 05/06/2008 13:36

End of July - DH has to report for duty on August 1 - so when he eventually fills the forms in, I'll let you know.

I did, thank you. There's quite a lot coming - perhaps I'll go into business making magnet boards and selling them at officers' wives coffee mornings .
When are you supposed to be moving? Are you going to one of those funny Navy places?

We were at Shriv before we came here. Just tell the movers you're going to Bower Green so you can book, then remember to change it when they set off with your stuff

Scholar is nice! NEVER order from the takeaway in Shrivenham village. It's vile.

It's really amusing where we are, because it's a NATO headquarters and very top-heavy. You can't turn around without falling over a major or lt col, and the higher-ups are fairly common too. You can tell it really pisses off some of the wives who are used to wearing their husband's rank - cos they're ten a penny here

I am not obsessed at all about husband's rank or regt - mainly because I served with most of them for 12 years and know that tossers come from all regiments. LL - go for 21 Bower Green - it was our quarter and has an ace garden, cheaper rent, more solid walls and is not on a cut through, so is quiet. Also, don't get stressed about quarter availability yet - a lot of those guys don't have posting orders yet, so cannot get going. You will guaranteed get school and nursery places and 3 good friends of mine are going this year, so I can guarantee nice friends too....

MuchLessTiredNow · 06/06/2008 20:41

scoots - if you need to come to us for a bolt hole in the limbo period, you are MORE than welcome! only 20 mins up the A2

why not BG? I know the top end looks crap, but the bottom end has garages and is really nice. 2 of the friends are going to be students on ICSC, one is going to be instructor on ICSC (army course). Why not just give fake address for movers and make up a posting order? I've done it loads and am still alive!

Shoshe · 06/06/2008 20:52

Normal? Normal? Doncha know we are all slightly looney?

Scootergrrrl · 06/06/2008 20:55

I've thought that many times.... Higher up the chain, the loonier they are (just look at Littlelapin )
