You all know what I meanGrin.
I hope those that want it get it, those that don't want it don't.

MrsSnaplegs · 01/03/2011 08:46

Agree with that sentiment entirely!

Saltire · 01/03/2011 09:52

and perhaps I should add " I hope those that deserve to get it do "

What?

Saltire · 01/03/2011 10:05

1st lot of redundancies are announced today.Apparently

OP posts:
scaryteacher · 01/03/2011 10:35

Thought it was going to be later than that? According to Arrse it's been put back to tomorrow for the RAF because of Libya. The RN announcement is in April/May I think, and the Army's has been booted back to May.

Saltire · 01/03/2011 10:37

Ah well, I was just going on things DH and various neighbours have said. its not going to be pretty whenever it happens though is it?

OP posts:
herdingcats · 01/03/2011 10:41

I thought originally it was today ,but DH told me they find out 1st September now. He's RAF btw .
Its going to awful for lots of people

Barbieissick · 01/03/2011 10:51

1st of September is when said redundancies will take place.

The announcement is supposed to be today but someone else has just said it has been indefinately delayed due to the Libya situation.

Lots of rumours. Delaying the inevitable really. If we're going I just want to know. Its a double edged sword for us - pros and cons either way but moral is so low I am beginning to think if DH gets the boot that he wont be as botherd as he 1st thought he would be. Only have 3 years left and 27 years of service behind him anyway.

DH will be home for lunch later so I will see what he has to say.

Did wonder when old Dave was stood up yesterday infront of the press, praising the forces for their Libya efforts if he was going say "and your redundancy letter is in the post, thank you" at the end of it!

meditrina · 01/03/2011 10:57

BFBS reporting that an announcement is due today - I suppose we'll have to wait and see if it happens. It's saying a head-count reduction of about 17,000 is expected.

The 17000 is not today - its over the next 5 or so years.

They have already said some months ago how many from each service. The numbers I have forgotten now.

Todays announcement was about the first round of redundancies and about how many from certain ranks/trades etc all to go by September 1st as far as I was aware.

I then think there is supposed to be a brief period where they wait to see how many of those are filled voluntarily before axing the remainder shortfall.

This is what everyone around here is saying - but no idea what the fact are anymore - rumours are always rife in these situations.

BFBS link - no predictions of who/when/how: just the total headcount and expectation of more detailed plans (especially 5000 from RAF) to be announced today (maybe?)

meditrina · 01/03/2011 11:37

SKY have just reported continuing expectation of an announcement today - predicting 7,000 Army and 5,000 each for Navy and Air Force. No word on expected level of detail. Will post here again if I catch the announcement.

Saltire · 01/03/2011 11:37

Was i correct then? Am a bit confused now! announicng today for leaving in September would be about right, 6 months!

OP posts:
Saltire · 01/03/2011 11:41

Sky are also reporting that the RAF could help enforce the no fly zone over libya from jets based in Cyprus.

"Oh we'll make you redundant but in the meantime can you fly your jet over libya for the next 6 months!"

OP posts:
meditrina · 01/03/2011 11:55

Yes! The timings here could rival the "brown e-mail" f*ck up.

scaryteacher · 01/03/2011 12:23

It's 5000 from the RAF and 5000 from the RN. The Army will lose some now, but will be hammered post 2015. The RN redundancy boards will be next month I think and announcements thereafter.

Saltire · 01/03/2011 13:45

tosser Cameron on air now about modernising the military and how we spend 45billion a year and how lucky we are to have Typhoon!and what a flexible air force we will haveHmm

OP posts:
CaveMum · 01/03/2011 13:49

BBC News said 170 pilots to go. They thought it would be 100 or so trainees but they are expanding it to include some pilots who have completed training.
Not sure if that's been verified though.

Barbieissick · 01/03/2011 13:50

Saltire - am sat here thinking the same.

David "we have to prepare for every eventuality"

What eventuality may that be I wonder??? Not one requiring the RAF I hope!!! Pratt!!

herdingcats · 01/03/2011 14:30

We already know how many of DH trade and level are going ,just not who. IYSWIM
That detail will be in September he told me at lunch time.
The cut is 10% of his particular role , which means 25 personnel as there are not many of them at his level

Saltire · 01/03/2011 15:13

Dh has jsut rang to say that his trade they are looking at 10 WO
10 Flt Sgts
25Sgts - his rankSad. He seems to be keen to take it, although he's never directly said so

OP posts:
Barbieissick · 01/03/2011 15:57

what trade is that? Have not been able to get hold of my DH all afternoon.
