13 Squadron and 14 Squadron are to be disbanded - here

jumagoo · 01/03/2011 16:36

I am waiting for the 5pm declaration via online plus I went onto a pilot text message system as a guinea pig with lewisham...lets see if it works. Good luck all, I feel quite apprehensive now as my daughter did auditions for musical places

coccyx · 01/03/2011 16:37

Do we know the age ranges they are interested in. Hubby getting a briefing tomorrow but wondered if anyone knew more details

penguin73 · 01/03/2011 17:37

I have pm'd you too! Thanks Smile

I took voluntary redundancy years ago from the Royal Navy and it was the best thing I did as I hated my job and allowed me to achieve much more in life. Just thought I would throw in a little positive comment.

It must be a difficult time for some of you. My DH seemed to think his job was safe and that the main people they were going to get rid of first was those that can't/won't deploy and those that can't pass fitness etc as well as asking for volunteers before they do compulsary ones.
I'm in the TA as a Nursing Officer but have not kept up to date with whats going on there as been off sick/maternity leave for quite a while.

Have replied :)

coccyx · 01/03/2011 19:01

I will message you if thats ok

scaryteacher · 01/03/2011 19:48

The fact that our dhs are all still in should be an indication Blue Collie that they like their jobs and wish to keep them. They could have resigned at any time and haven't.

OfflineFor30Seconds · 01/03/2011 19:55

Not exactly Scary, DH is still time-barred; the way things are at the moment he would leave if he could but it's not an option.

BlueCollie · 01/03/2011 20:03

scaryteacher I'm not quite sure why you have wrote what you have to me as I was only trying to put a positive note on here for those that may have DH wishing to leave. I wasn't being abusive, offensive or saying it is right that these redundancies were happening. I even wrote it must be a hard time for some of you. But hey this is mumsnet right and so someone has to say something in a nasty way!!

herdingcats · 01/03/2011 20:32

Well I hope you all have good news.
Dh has been told now he is not in 1st tranch, as you need to be +3yrs post promotion and under 51 to be considered in his trade. He is the right age ,but not long enough at his level, I should be relieved ,but almost feel its prolonging the agony . There is no guarantee the criteria for redundancy will be the same in the 2nd tranch.
BlueCollie - I'm sure Scary did not mean to be nasty , I find her to be a very astute poster. She has good working knowledge of the forces ,and she is right. You can PVR at anyrime ,they will definately not stop you now,and you'll be out in no time at all.

Sorry to hear that herbie, Dh mate ,different trade, has 5 at level required and 4 posts for redundancy .
Good luck for your DH Smile and all the rest who wish to stay

coccyx · 01/03/2011 22:50

Oh dear OH could be made redundant. he thinks if he misses it this tranch he may get caught later.....does he go now or hang on

meditrina · 01/03/2011 22:55

What is the redundancy package like? DH told me that for those who have reached their pension point, it's pretty much the statutory minimum. Anyone know if that's right? And is it likely to be the same for all rounds?

Am I right in thinking Green and Dark Blue to find out their future on 4th April?

coccyx · 02/03/2011 06:30

government are trying to reduce payouts so second and third tranch may be offered less

madwomanintheattic · 02/03/2011 06:40

currently 9mos for tranche 1, but if you get picked up for compulsory later tis likely to be only 3mos.

as they've pushed back the army announcements until may, with no yay or nay until sept, dh has applied for pvr.

but i thought this thread was about last week's pink list initially Blush dh's cousin was on it - dh failed to notice as he was too busy bemoaning the rest. Grin

MrsSnaplegs · 02/03/2011 07:09

The families federations have a link to the compensation packages on their websites

scaryteacher · 02/03/2011 09:55

I think if dh was pinged to go it would be about £38k redundancy, (34 months left to serve) plus I suppose they would have to continue to pay school fees here as ds is in his GCSE years. I assume dh would also get his gratuity and pension, so it really only saves MoD about £64k, which would be eaten into by school fees, paying our move back to UK etc, so no net saving.

scaryteacher · 02/03/2011 10:03

Blue Collie - you said that leaving had allowed you to achieve much more in life. Perhaps those who have stayed in and not resigned, have achieved what they wanted to do and are right where they want to be.

I was not being nasty, just stating the bleeding obvious in response to what was on your part a rather tactless post, given we are in the middle of a recession and well paid jobs in Civvy street are like rocking horse shit at the moment.

It's not only losing your job, but in many cases, your home if you live in SFA, and don't own your own place as well, and having to sort out where you will live, what you'll do, schooling for children, so it's no wonder that people are worried.

coccyx · 02/03/2011 11:37

For some its more than a job its a way of life for many years

scaryteacher · 04/03/2011 14:38

Have just spoken to and had an email from dh. He thinks that anyone who will retire before 2015 (as he will) are not in the firing line for redundancy, as there won't be enough of a saving.

madwomanintheattic · 04/03/2011 14:42

i think that's a given, scary. why bother to give someone a shed load of money to go a year or two early when they are going anyway and already factored into your numbers? it doesn't make economic sense. (although making economic sense doesn't appear to be high on the list of mod priorities generally, i think in this case it's the only decisive factor. we're going to end up with the wrong people going. again.)
