Manky. doesn't spread, look, feel or taste anything like the real deal.

And this from someone who buys tesco value pot noodles.

BallpointPen · 30/06/2010 21:22

None of those 'yeast extracts' are ever any good.

Lonicera · 30/06/2010 21:22

I like it as well as marmite, give it a try

orienteerer · 30/06/2010 21:23

I have no idea, it's Marmite or nothing for me

misdee · 30/06/2010 21:23

its ok for a poor substitute

BosomsByTheSea · 30/06/2010 21:28

It's yummy. I am a complete Marmite addict and I like it more than the original. They don't stock it in our local Tesco though.

QualityTime · 30/06/2010 21:34

Sacrilege!

I will sacrifice you to the marmite gods for such a heinous crime.

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/06/2010 21:40

Oh God I hope it is as good as the Sainsbury's yeast extract (sadly discontinued) which was EVEN BETTER than marmite. Am going to get myself over to a big Tesco as soon as the school run is done in the morning!

orienteerer · 30/06/2010 21:42

Whatever you do DO NOT buy Marmite Cereal Bars, they are the work of the devil! I love Marmite but these are disgusting.

QualityTime · 30/06/2010 21:47

Have you all made marmite roast potatoes?

BosomsByTheSea · 30/06/2010 21:49

Tell me more, QT

orienteerer · 30/06/2010 21:57

QT - you're just teasing?

Hazeyjane · 30/06/2010 22:01

It is much, much nicer than Marmite, and I am very annoyed that our local Tesco has stopped selling it. It is a bit more Bovrily, IMO.

Buddjela · 30/06/2010 22:04

marmite roast potatoes?

tell me more?

Though ihave a DH who doesn't like marmite (shouldn't have married him really should I)

Still not too sure if I should have got it as some of you seem to think it's nice - though not being sacrifice to the marmite gods is a fairly good thing

Do you think I angered them by just considering it? It was much cheaper after all.

BosomsByTheSea · 30/06/2010 22:07

(and lovelier)

puffling · 30/06/2010 22:14

Vegemite is rank, too bovrilated. Is the Tescos one vegemitey or marmitey?

Marmite mashed up with butter is yum. The proportions should be 60% butter to 40% marmite on wholemeal sliced bread, also nice with a layer of peanut butter.

BosomsByTheSea · 30/06/2010 22:17

Tesco one is Marmitey, not Vegemitey.
I am dribbling now.

Buddjela · 30/06/2010 22:19

Hazeyjane says it's more bovrily puffing, which you'd assume means it's vegemitey.

Nuff said.

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 30/06/2010 22:20

vile

Hazeyjane · 30/06/2010 23:07

No, no its not vegemitey at all!

Vegemite is like marmite with added vomit.

It's not too bovrily, just richer than Marmite. God, I want some now.

listenandlearn · 01/07/2010 00:12

i like the asda yeast extract myself

every time i hear the word yeast i think thrush uhhhhhhhhhh

BertieBotts · 01/07/2010 00:15

QT, I swear you just said

I think if you did that you could be described as loving marmite a little too much...

QualityTime · 01/07/2010 07:55

Sorry i had to go and lie down as i thought i had written 'smears bosoms in marmite' too and it was too much

Anyway, roasties, basically, normal roasties parboiled and roasted in a bit of oil but you add a big teaspoon of marmite tothe oil when you preheat it. Give it a stir before adding potatoes and make sure they are covered. It will look uneven but it makes them taste all beefy and yummy. Even marmite refusers have eaten them with no complaints, not that i told them....

If you shake the potatoes in semolina before adding to the pan they are even better...
