I'm trying to give up bread - what can I eat for lunch instead of sandwiches?

Just having a bit of an experiment for a week or so to see if I can go without bread - no particular reason, although I do get quite a few spots (I'm 43 ) and several people have mentioned bread might be a reason??? I dunno.

I usually have toast for brekky, sandwiches for lunch, bread with my evening meal. Aaaaagh. Really struggling with lunch ideas. I am a bit picky and don't like pasta.. What the heck ele do people eat for lunch? Baked potatoes? Salads (yawn), crackers . There must be other stuff...

potato salad and cold sliced meat? Mind you potato salad not really diet food. Maybe a potato salad made with a bit of oil instead of mayonnaise.

Friend of mine swears by sliced chicken (just ready sliced from the supermarket) with a bit of mustard for breakfast. Just that. She has a lovely figure.

I love sardines, so a tin of sardines with tommy sauce is idea for me - I eat outside in the summer though

cous cous with raw vegtables and a oil and garlic dressing

a food flask is a good idea if you havn't got a fridge or heating facilities - then you just make sure you make an extra portion in the evening and i always put the dishes out and the tupperware when I didsh up, keep it in the fridge and in the morning heat it up and add a little boiling water to the flask, and swill out - then out in food and seal with a little boiling water and ut lid on.

What about a great big fat heated in the oven proper Cornish pasty! Oooooh. And so much better for you than a ham sandwich.

Is a pasty really better for you than a ham sandwich bibbity? That's exciting!

shepherds pie

i gave up wheat and dairy and ate shepherds pie all the time, loads of it with chips and still lost three stone in 5 months

Tis. Because no yeast or gluten, you see. Dr Gillian McKeith told me.

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/04/2010 22:45

She said you should have at least two a week, actually.

With a Greggs sausage roll on Fridays.

No gluten you say? woo hoo! I'm quittin' bread and bakin' pasties!

When I was lo-carbin' I would keep a wodge of sliced salami in the fridge to nibble on. And some cubed feta.
Fattening but proteintastic!
