Auberge du Lac, Brocket Hall

I had planned a celebratory 40th birthday meal in London for DH but babysitting nightmare has put paid to this. So have just booked lunch at Auberge du Lac but have not found any recent reviews. Has anyone been there? Would you recommend it?

Annoyed as can't even go on his birthday! It will be a good surprise the next day though.

That's the gorgeous Jean Chrostophe's place. I'd have to go when he was "0n duty" so I could swoon and faint into my starter!

Alibubbles - £100 per head?! Set lunch is £28.50 and includes 2 glasses of wine. It is only his 40th after all. May give them a ring to tell me what it might be as I'm not too good with shellfish if it featured that. Salmion would be brilliant.

Puff - if you buy President butter you can enter a competition and win JC for an evening. He will cook dinner for 4 but maybe you could dispense with that and suggest eating grapes off his semi-clad body instead?

Alibubbles - I'm in Hertford so possibly too far if you are out towards Welwyn. She sounds brilliant though. Is she planning a career working with children?

V yummy, and price actually not bad unless you buy a rather nice bottle of wine too.

Thanks for the recommendation Tabs. Quite looking forward to it now. Ages since I've been out for a good meal.

Alibubbles - yes I think you will be poor for many years to come. You will have to cut back on the fine dining! Shame you are a tad too far as she sounds a star (and very intelligent). What a lovely way to spend your youth - Paris and either of the others. It makes me feel like running away and starting it all over again (just envious of that freedom).

25 minutes!! Watch out in Hertford as they have put loads of cameras in lately as well as the mobile units.

Yoyo, haven't tried Brocket Hall yet myself, but my friends who are in the business highly recommend.

Ooh Edam - you're the closest MNer I've found to myself so far! I'm just 'up the road' in Kimpton, and come to Harpenden at least once a week (for fat class!).

I'm pretty central, just off the main road. Have one ds, who will be two in (eek) 12 days. Eek because I've got to get everything sorted for his birthday party!

Some very good friends of ours used to live in Kimpton - it is apparently so friendly that they travel 200m back here for village occasions. Sadly they moved before we moved up here (I don't think the two events were related...).

It is a great place. I'm actually just outside the village, halfway between Kimpton and Whitwell, and tend to socialise more in Whitwell. I think both are the kind of place where you know the name of everyone in the village local!

Maybe we should have a very mini meet up? Since the Harpenden and District branch of MN seems to consist of us three.... what do you think?
