As a recent convert to oven chips, can someone recommend which are the tastiest? I'm not too bothered about fat/salt but want to know what's YUMMY.

MCain Home Fries

Enid · 04/07/2005 19:21

mcains home fries

they are the only ones

also M&S potato wedges are divine although not strictly chips

Enid · 04/07/2005 19:23

I bet the seasoned ones are Southern fries they are yummy but too salty for the kids

Janh · 04/07/2005 19:24

IM(very wide!)E, McCains are consistently pretty good. Own label ones are sometimes but they vary a lot, and even if they're nice one week they can be crap the next.

Local Sainsbos had some for a few months that were made with olive oil and they were gorgeous - I think they were in a turquoise bag.

katierocket · 04/07/2005 19:25

macains home fries, definitely

Twiglett · 04/07/2005 19:25

McCain's are the best and the ingredients are potato and sunflower oil (in the normal, straight-cut chips that is)

Janh · 04/07/2005 19:27

Tesco's own label wedges are usually good too - yellow bag (but don't buy roasties by mistake as DH did - I think someone had picked up yellow bag of roasties, spotted wedges and dumped roasties there, and of course DH never engages his brain when shopping!)

Enid · 04/07/2005 19:32

I think fries have a coating but chips are just potato and oil?

Janh · 04/07/2005 19:33

The secret life of chips

Janh · 04/07/2005 19:33

Home fries do have a coating - flour and seasoning and stuff? I prefer ordinary chips but the consensus seems to be that Fries are tastier.

bettys · 04/07/2005 19:34

Countess Dracula's home made oven chips - haven't bought any since she converted me!

Enid · 04/07/2005 19:34

omg now am fantasising about chips and Dijonnaise

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 04/07/2005 19:35

am i the only one who DOESNT like mccain home fries?!

Janh · 04/07/2005 19:37

No, jm, I don't either.

My MIL still makes her own and they are delish. She is an utterly crap cook in all other departments but does make a mean chip. (My mum did too, in the greasy old chip pan stored full of old lard week in week out, fab!)

CountessDracula · 04/07/2005 19:44

I very rarely eat chips and almost never cook them at home, however I did have somewhere some Auntie Bessie's oven chips and they were so good - I think they are coated in batter or something vile sounding but are in fact delicious. Much better than McCain
