I spent almost 30 years thinking I didn't like cheese and have realized over the last year that that isn't true at all I just don't like chedder.

I'm gutted since discovering sheeps cheese that I've been missing out for so long !

What's your favourite ?

RnB · 01/01/2010 16:51

Oooh blimey, the thought of that larva cheese make me feel sick

SantaClausImWorthIt · 01/01/2010 16:55

Saying you don't like cheddar is like saying you don't like soup! There are so many different types of cheddar that they are all, to all intents and purposes, completely different cheeses.

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Canadian cheddar is lovely. Smooth, rather than waxy/rubbery, with a sharp but very well balanced taste.

My own personal favourite, after a good cheddar, is Roquefort.

Not wildly keen on cheese with rinds, like Brie - although I like the cheese in the middle.

JaneiteIsTrite · 01/01/2010 17:24

Santa - the Waitrose Cornish Cruncher is better than the M&S one imho.

I do like Applewood Cheddar too. And Emmenthal but nobody else likes that.

JaneiteIsTrite · 01/01/2010 17:24

Love feta too. The Sainsbo's barrel aged one is v nice.

JolieGirl · 01/01/2010 17:30

La Vignotte - creamy, french, lemony = delicious. With a big slab of quince paste. Heavenly.

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 01/01/2010 17:34

Applewood Smoked Cheddar
Camembert
Brie
Full fat cream cheese

BananaPudding · 01/01/2010 18:44

Brie
Gruyere
Smoked Gouda
Asadero
Oaxaca

But my favorite is Pepperjack

PestoSparklingMonster · 01/01/2010 18:46

Roquefort

Heated · 01/01/2010 18:58

Can't express how much I'm missing some of my favourite cheeses. Persuaded dh to go out for a meal last week just because of of the deep fried Camembert starter - yum

My favourites are:
Danish blue
Stilton
Cheddar
Brie (French, not Somerset/Cornish)
Applewood
Port Salut
Roquefort
Limburger
Halloumi
Camembert
Pont l'Evèque

Jux · 01/01/2010 19:48

This is my favourite cheese ever. Can't get it over here

Jux · 01/01/2010 19:49

(except I've just seen that I can!)

serinBrightside · 02/01/2010 20:00

Jux, that must have made your day!

I love all cheese as do DC's, the stronger the better. Think Grana Padano on toast! Had to cut back a while ago when I discovered I was spending £50 a month just on Babybel which the kids were eating like sweets

For those of you who say you don't like cheddar, you should try a really good one, like Black Bomber (comes in black waxed coating). It's wonderful - not rubbery, not hard with a fabulous taste.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but ALL cheese tastes much better at room temp. I've just got the cheese out of the fridge to warm up for tea (about 4 hours' time).

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/01/2011 13:52

Roquefort or St Agur, depending on what kind of bread I am going to have.

gibbberish · 09/01/2011 13:59

Oooh love extra mature cheddar - as long as it is strong enough to burn my tongue (masochist).

Also stilton, applewood, brie and feta.

Hate edam and camembert.

OnlyMeUK · 09/01/2011 14:02

Certainly not Lake District Cheese Co. Mature Cumbrian Cheddar, god awful stuff! Grin

thumbwitch · 09/01/2011 14:04

If I have to pick one, it would be Boursin.
But if I'm allowed more then:
Buffalo mozzarella
Port Salut
Red Leicester
Feta but only sheep/goat milk
Halloumi

However, I will eat most cheese (apart from strong goaty ones) quite happily - am a real mouse.Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 09/01/2011 14:14

Epoisse

Left on the windowsill until it tries to make it's own way down.

mousymouse · 09/01/2011 14:18
  • extra mature cheddar
  • appenzell cheese
  • danish blue
  • stilton
  • extra mature gouda

can*t stomach strong sheepsmilk cheese or goats cheese...

taffetacat · 09/01/2011 14:58

What is this Ossau Iraty of which you speak? Mouthwatering descriptions required please.

I like:

  • Cornish Crackler Cheddar
  • Manchego
  • Jarlsberg
  • Good Gouda
  • Blacksticks Blue
  • Cambozola
  • Dolcelatte morbidi
  • Goats cheese
  • Feta
  • Gruyere in cooking

I really don't like Brie or Camembert much though.

debka · 09/01/2011 21:19

I love cheese too, all kinds but my very secret pg craving which I have been indulging in is a slice of 'plastic' bread with lots of butter and a cheese single on top- you know, the ones that come individually wrapped in plastic and don't actually contain any cheese. Blush but yum!!

GeorgeEliot · 09/01/2011 21:36

Vacherin Mont d'Or when its in season.

Rest of year round like really good parmesan.

Balletrose · 09/01/2011 21:55

I favour a really good Primula Cheese Spread when in season. However, for a totally indulgence, Cheese Strings, left on the windowsill until it sweats like a pig on a treadmill. Divine.
