Eggy bread. With ketchup. Weekend treat in our house. It was one of ds's first phrases "eh eh bre, mama", as he jumped on my face in the morning.

works quite nicely with thin slices of baguette (when we run out of proper bread). Then you can make it look like a pair of eyes with strategic dollops of ketchup.

The French call it 'pain perdu' because it is (supposed to be) made with stale bread.

I have a recipe book for children and it's called 'Poor Knights of Windsor'

I just googled it and read that "Poor Knights of Windsor" is also a name applied to a dish colloquially known in Britain as eggy bread, or French Toast in North America.

French toast. Delish with sugar or with beans (but not at the same time). Mmmmmm...

Eggy bread.

To be consumed either with sugar which is how I had it last weekend, or with baked beans and some very good quality pork sausages.

Yum.
