notnowbernard · 29/04/2009 20:39

Muesli or porridge

ohdearwhatamess · 29/04/2009 20:52

Big cup (or two) of strong coffee. Slice of toast and marmalade.

mawbroon · 29/04/2009 21:29

I am not a fan of cereal at all.

I like a protein breakfast if I have time.

But more often than not, I have things that are not "breakfast" foods at all, usually left overs. I love having spicy leftovers first thing. YUM

For you, meltedmarsbars:

You can try using it with most recipes I think - I've made cakes using the puree instead of the butter and it works out really nicely and extra moreish!
Basically, you substitute whatever butter you'd usually use in a cake/brownie recipe with the prune puree on a 1/2to 1 substitute, so one cup butter = 1/2 cup prune puree.

Recipe for fudgy brownies (Canadian recipe)
4oz unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup prune puree
3 large egg whites
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup flour
3 tbsp chopped walnuts

preheat oven to 180 degrees/gas 4
lightly grease 8" square cake tray
break chocolate into pieces and melt, in a bowl over pan of simmering water, stirring occssionally til all choc melted
Remove from heat and set aside
In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients apart from flour and walnuts, beat to blend throroughly.
Mix in flour. Pour into tray and spread to even it out, sprinkle walnuts on top.
Bake for approx 30 mins until springy to touch
Cool on rack and cut into bars.

Per serving they're about 86 cals, which for a brownie ain't arf bad!

fruit with fat free natural yogurt and teaspoon manuka honey

wholemeal toast and peanut butter plus fat free fruit yogurt

porridge with cinamon and teaspoon manuka honey

beans on toast

Occasionally cereal - e.g. weetabix minis

On the weekend sometimes have two breakfasts - a fruit one when I get up then a cooked breakfast as 'brunch'. Scrambled egg with smoked salmon is nice and not too expensive if you use offcuts.

porridge every day, sometimes with fruit always with molasses

humptyNdumpy · 29/04/2009 22:17

Ok I'm starting to come round to the idea of fruit honey and yoghurt.

What fruits do you use?
Do you cover the fruit with the yoghurt and honey?
Does it fill you up till lunch?

Ivykaty44 · 30/04/2009 16:09

muslei the fruit one from sainsbury then some yogurt on top and a chopped banana and kiwi fruit and a spoon full of tinned mandarins, a pot of black coffee.

FrankMustard Thanks for recipe, its the village Fete on Sunday, might make them for the cake stall....do they have the "prune effect"?

mileniwmffalcon · 30/04/2009 21:02

poached egg & grilled tomatoes on toast.

duchesse · 30/04/2009 21:19

Usually just a banana and maybe some grapes and pineapple and a mug of cocoa with a splash of coffee. If I'm really hungry (not often even now while pregnant) I might have a couple of slices of toast and butter and marmite about an hour later, or some yoghurt. When not pregnant, my wheat intolerance would stop me from doing that but it seems to have abated a little at the moment.

I'm low carbing 5 days out of 7 at the mo (am 40) next March and am determined to be fab and glam and not fat and blobby when I hit the big 40) which is a killer as I'm veggie (but it's working), and breakfast is the hardest meal really. Most days I wait until about 10.30-11ish and then have a spinach and mushroom omellette....by Friday i feel like i will throw if I have another one!!!! But Saturday and Sunday I have toast 1/2 slice with marmite and 1/2 slice with marmalade or honey.

Pre low carbing most days it was peanut butter on toast with sliced banana.

ruddynorah · 01/05/2009 11:33

i had leftover apple strudel this morning. not much different to a croissant really.

BarefootShirl · 01/05/2009 12:03

Had muesli this a.m. but only because I started another bloody diet today (1st of month) so as not to frighten people when I put the bikini on in the summer

FrankMustard · 02/05/2009 00:40

meltedmarsbars not as far as I know.....I eat prunes every morning for brekkie so am possibly not the best person to tell you... haha!

ps to Special K fans. I bought the Tesco's own "Special Flakes" today instead of Special K, trying to be more budget conscious - yuk, totally horrible!
