I want Grape Nuts!

ilovegrapenuts · 26/03/2009 21:20

.... But they seem to have disappeared from the shelves of all my local supermarkets and Ocado tells me they are 'temporarily unavailable'. They were my cereal crunch in a time of credit crunch and I want them back! Have e-mailed Kraft foods and am awaiting reply.I am in the south east. Please report any local sightings. Thanks!

oh they are vile

I accidentally chose a yoghurt with honey, banana and grape nuts thinking it was granola

they were like sour cereal, what are they?

zanz1bar · 26/03/2009 21:39

yum, have them for breakfast every morning.
tesco in suffolk

ilovegrapenuts · 26/03/2009 21:58

Me too zanz1bar - or rather I did. I'm in Kent, so Suffolk a bit far.
Foxinsocks - grape nuts are a delicious crunchy wheat and malted barley cereal which is high in fibre and low in fat - so says the box blurb.I love the malty taste - a bit like Horlicks or Ovaltine. They have no added sugar, are full of iron and stay crunchy - or at least keep some bite - when you add milk. What's not to like?!

Ooh, you have made me all nostalgic now. I adored Grape Nuts as a child... you've made me want them now! I'm in Kent too so will let you know if I find any.

pippinntog · 28/03/2009 10:57

I think you are on to something here as I too have found it impossible to get Grape Nuts anywhere, locally (London) or on line. I have also emailed but heard that Kraft no longer import them, then emailed the States - no reply! Once you get to like Grape Nuts it is difficult to live without them so it would be great to know if there is somewhere you can get them still..

belgo · 28/03/2009 10:58

I liked them too.

MelonCauli · 28/03/2009 11:23

I had a bowl of Grape Nuts this morning. I had them when I was a child and recently found them in Waitrose.

belgo · 28/03/2009 11:27

good name MelonCauli

MelonCauli · 28/03/2009 11:31

Thanks belgo I am a serial name changer (been on here 6 years) but I think this is my best effort so far.

sarah76 · 28/03/2009 20:08

Mmmmmmmmmmmm....Grape Nuts! Another thing I haven't eaten in the six years I've been over here...didn't even know anyone had them! Hope you find some soon.

Have you tried some of the American importer sites?

RustyBear · 28/03/2009 20:13

I used to love Grape Nuts as a child, but my favourite was that one that looks like little bits of wood - in fact we always used to call it 'wood' & I can't remember what it's actually called. Anyone know so I can google ii & find out if I can still get it?

jooseyfruit · 28/03/2009 20:16

is it Frugrains??? if so, you can get them in holland and barratt.

ingles2 · 28/03/2009 20:20

Tesco's have them in Kent.
I considered buying it today until I remember how vile it is.
If you can't find them I'll send you a pack!

ingles2 · 28/03/2009 20:20

ooo, you are in Kent!
This is Tenterden Tesco's

RustyBear · 28/03/2009 20:23

Good , good! Grape nut lovers of the world unite! Very kind of you to offer to send me a pack ingles2 (and sorting me out on my Cressida Cowell thread) but trouble is I was munching my way through a pack about every 5 days. Have you spotted them recently in Tenterden Tesco's ingles? May ring them up and see how many boxes they have and whether I couuld justify the hour long journey - I am London edge of Kent.
MelonCauli - our local Waitrose used to stock them - may ask them if they have any stock of them left somewhere to transport to Desperate In Kent!
Pippinntog - I had that e-mail from Kraft too - haven't followed up further. I share your breakfast time pain!

Yesterday there was a single row, full shelf
I'm sure I'll have to pop to tesco today, I'll check.

JimmyMcNulty · 29/03/2009 13:28

Seem to be available on Ocado now. They're in my trolley anyway!

scienceteacher · 29/03/2009 16:38

You can get them in shops that stock American goods.

ilovegrapenuts · 29/03/2009 21:27

I am hopefully sorted for now - thanks JimmyMcNulty - now showing in stock for me at Ocado. Let me know if yours come! My order for Wed mainly consists of grape nuts - 20 boxes of them!
Keep an eye out for me ingles2 - need a back up plan if my hopes are dashed on Wed, and it does happen to be April Fools' day!

OP posts:
JimmyMcNulty · 30/03/2009 15:02

20 boxes! Well my order is coming on Weds too so I know who to blame if I get my paltry one box substituted

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 15:12

I love them, but they are very hard on the teeth !

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 15:21

Oat Crunchies are back !!

MyEye · 30/03/2009 15:31

My husband has been huffing and puffing about this for weeks.
I'll tell him they're back on ocado.
Are you serious -- 20 boxes?
