ComeWhineWithMe · 02/03/2009 18:25

OMG Riven I want egg and chips now .

ComeWhineWithMe · 02/03/2009 18:26

Potato curry recipe is good .It is on netmums recipe page the only thing I go there for honest .

lucysmam · 02/03/2009 18:28

I'd like to keep chickens Riven, unfortunately, the area we're in they'd not last long Some of the kids are real gits!

Creamy pasta is what we're now having tonight, but my oh is making so not sure how. Always goes down well here

Jacket spuds we've not had in forever either, those with cauli cheese I think

Egg & chips I'll add as well, with beans here though

I've never actually got round to making pizzas, even though I often think about it. Think I'll pop that on for an afternoon activity with the lo while my oh is out & tea

(can see me having a L O N G list of things we've not had in ages that are cheap!

Sausage casserole always goes down well here just chuck two tins of chopped toms over thin sausages cut into three with some onions and cook for an hour .

janeite · 02/03/2009 18:42

Today - mattar paneer (with chickpeas as well as I hadn't got as many frozen peas left as I thought!) with little roasted potatoes (inspired myself on your thread the other day!)

Tomorrow - manic evening, so pasta with pesto and roasted vege

Weds - veggie chilli and rice OR veggie sausage casserole and baked potatoes, depending on which I fancy

Thursday and Friday - no idea yet but may involve peppers and cous cous somewhere.

later in the week there will be chicken and chickpea curry, german sausages and some sort of stir fry.

Mercy · 02/03/2009 19:00

We haven't had paneer for absolutely ages, thanks for the reminder janeite! Ditto mushroom Stroganoff.

We will be eating stuff from the freezer for the next week or so.

janeite · 02/03/2009 19:03

Glad to be of use Mercy!

Weegle - how do you do your jambalaya please?

bellavita · 02/03/2009 19:07

Saturday we had tagliatelle sangiovese (which was really easy to do - make some pesto, boil some potatoes until nearly soft, in the same water add fresh tagliatelle and fine green beans, cook for 3 mins, drain into a dish, coat in pesto then serve with parmesan cheese grated over the top

Sunday we had homemade beefburgers and homemade spicy potato wedges and salad

Tonight we had homemade meatpie with mash and veg

Tuesday - homemade meatballs in tom sauce and
pasta

Wednesday - curry and rice

Thursday - chicken stir fry

Friday - quick tea as DS2 has guitar lesson and I am at work in the eve - so homemade soup or bacon butties.

lizziemun · 02/03/2009 19:10

Riven, it has a 6ft wall atm but council are pulling them down to re-build nicer, better ones this month. & the kids will climb the walls just to get to stuff round here (or grown ups for that matter). No pets outside that I've seen apart from the HUGE!! rottweiler (sp) up the road. It's a shame as well as my mum used to keep hens & have a lovelyveg garden when we were kids.

what's mattar paneer (sp there too!) janeite? The garlic roast spuds were beautiful with the curry, way better than chips

Weegle, chilli wraps . . . chilli wrapped in tortillas? That's use us some leftovers out of my freezer if they are

What's a stroganoff? I it sounds tasty I'll get googling

Pie's a good idea as well, cheers bella I have some leeks that could do with using up, lovely chick & mush pie . . .

I have a list for at least 2 weeks here! & most of it I've either never tried or not had for a long time so thanks ladies

I fry a chopped onion and chopped red pepper, stir in rice, then tip over chicken stock to cover/swamp, add a few dashes tabasco and some tomato puree... cook for 10 min. then stir in chopped chorizo and cooked chicken, cook 2-3 min, then stir in frozen peas, cook for approx 3 min, leave to stand and then serve. Easy and delish.

lucysmam · 02/03/2009 19:31

even better, can use what I have in for that one! Thanks

annaje · 02/03/2009 19:33

Monday (chicken gratin, potatoes, veg) from M&S dine in for 2

Tuesday - lime and coriander salmon with salad

Wednesday - chicken Balti and rice

Thursday - lasagne

Friday - Fajitas

Weekend - haven't thought that far ahead

janeite · 02/03/2009 19:34

Oh I am glad you liked the roasties.

Mattar paneer = an Indian cheese that you fry until it's all yummy and crispy plus a curry made from frozen peas (mattar): you stir the crispy paneer into the peas just before serving. It's dead easy and tasty. I use a tweaked about version of Nigella's recipe from "Feast" - will see if I can find it for you.

here

I add some chilli and cumin to mine and don't bother processing the onion etc.

lucysmam · 02/03/2009 19:36

ta janeite, going on my list as well to try out

Doing a big shop (on a budget-sh) which should last a few weeks when topped up at some point. So far, I am planning

  1. butternut squash and potato curry (from the Aldi magazine which I find really good)
  2. veggie 'bass-anya' as ds2 calls it!
  3. chicken casserole (prob cream and white wine) and ds1 will have quorn bits in his
  4. tuna 'balls' and rice
  5. salmon with red pesto bake, pots and veg
  6. sausage and mash with veg and yorkshires
  7. pizza and wedges

will also have in; pasta and pesto, fish/veggie fingers (homemade)

may also try lentil bolagnese if I can find a recipe I like the look of
may also buy mince and make a big batch of basic bolegnese sauce to turn into pasta sauce/lasagne/shepherds' pie/chilli as and when
may also do stir fry/fajitas too (chicken/quorn.veg)
thinkig of moussaka if I can find a recipe I like
might do something with chorizo.....chorizo hash ala delia
morrocan chicken from sainsbury's site

looking also for jamie oliver turkey pie thing from christmas programme and chicken and pesto pasties from sainsburys site

would love to do jamie oliver fish pie but too expensive

sorry that ramble was me thinking out loud writing my shopping list

popsycal · 02/03/2009 19:46

the jamie oliver pie

in hich case, I may buy a chicken and do a roast dinner and use left overs in this!
