MN Food Club? Or a kick up the bum.

You know, like a book club but with food.

As in, people agree a menu then cook it (presumably trying out different recipes or variations on a theme) and then come back and talk about what worked and what didn't. Or what was tricky.

Is that too anal?

Just a thought whilst watching Masterchef and thinking I need a kick up the bum to try different menus.

Right, my current theory is that we use MN Recipes. Some posters have put recipes on there which they say are 10 out of 10 recipes. So they're good for kids. There are some veggie and some meat ones. I'm thinking main meal here.

I'll narrow it down to a list of 10, as a starting point (5 veggie, 5 meat)

Then, you do one a week, minimum, and report back. MNHQ will want us to put "official comments" on the recipes themselves, I guess (but this is our club not theirs! )

When we've exhausted the 10s, we'll go down to the 9s.

Bear with me, if you're up for this, I'll do the first list of 10.

Who's in?

Sorry Lucysmam, xposts there.

Am happy to pick one veggie, one meat per week if that's better?

Ok deal. Im in

Ivykaty44 · 12/02/2009 23:12

We will post 4 dishes (from the mn recipe) the 4 dishes will have already scored 10 stars for these delightful dishes.

We then go awasy with the 4 dishes and we make them over a four week period.

When you have made the dishes you come back here - and you chat amongst yourselves at how good the dish was.

have I got this correct?

ps it wasn't my spanish omelette it was Sam Stern's cooking up a storm - great book for getting teens interested in cooking and some fab dishes.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2009 23:13

Ivykate's in charge!

Right, in purely alphabetical order, I've taken 4 veggie, 4 meat to see us through the next month.

Beef Bulgogi -korean- (northernsoul)
Beef Cobbler (martianbishop)
beef stew (Anon)
Chorizo Risotto (Klaw)
Butternut squash and red onion soup (mckenzie)
Butternut Squash with sundried tomatoes and mascarpone (BefnalBub)
Carrot Kugel (Sugarmagnolia)
Cauliflower Cheese (Anon)

Comments please on your first meals by next Friday?

Ok you - MMOC can pick the first dish from the MN recipe section as it was all your idea - yes?

and you nominate the next person to pick a dish?

Then that person picks a dish and nominates someone else to pick a dish? Up to 4 dishes?

At least one must be veggie - so if you are choosing the fourth dish it will have to be veggie if there isn't one already.

Notice all the ? as I am easy to go with the flow

lucysmam · 12/02/2009 23:18

I'm up for it, will give me something new to try out.

Someone tell me what's going first so I can adjust my online shop that I'm ordering in the morning

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2009 23:18

I'll be starting with the beef cobbler this weekend.

lucysmam · 12/02/2009 23:19

x-post . . . MMOC, I'm all eyes

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/02/2009 23:23

Remember the aim is just to get you trying new recipes, which I reckon is fine once a week (busy mums and all that)

We might have exhausted this list in two to three weeks, in which case I'll post the next 8.

But this list deserves to be tried out.

yes?

You didn't just start the thread. You have created the next biggest thing on MN. You will no doubt publish a book saying "Well in Feb 2009 I had no idea that one innocuous post would make me a millionaire"

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/02/2009 08:57

I'll join, it sounds fun!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2009 09:19

So, who's with me on the http://www.mumsnet.com/Recipes?call=RecipePage&pid=1390 beef cobbler????

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2009 09:20

Duh!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/02/2009 09:27

I'll do the beef cobbler on sunday, it looks yummy!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/02/2009 09:28

This is assuming my new cooker knob arrives before then. One of my darling children pulled it off and lost it so I've had to order a replacement. I want my oven back!

TrillianAstra · 13/02/2009 10:47

I've just had shopping delivered, so the only one of those I have ingredients for right now is the cauliflower cheese.

lucysmam · 13/02/2009 11:29

the beef cobbler will either be sunday or mondays tea here I think, am off to market in a while for the beef

Ivykaty44 · 13/02/2009 15:35

Aaargh! I can't get into the recipes either! Why oh why?

lucysmam · 13/02/2009 15:59

I'll have a go for you, although I'm getting some bizzare message saying party not found when I try & open MMOC's link

Back in a mo

TrillianAstra · 13/02/2009 16:01
