I'm not going to beat around the bush here as I can't stand those threads that keep you guessing, it's really quite gross.

It was a Tesco Tomato and Mozzarella Pasta bake, it was really quite good for a micro meal and got half way through it when I found...........................................................................................
A Toe nail! It looked as though someone had torn off the top of their nail - not an entire nail but still

I'm not sure what to do about it really. I've kept the packaging, the other half of the pasta and the nail. Do I take it straight back to Tesco? or phone customer complaints dept?

Take it to the local food safety team (at the Council). Don't take it back to Tesco, it needs to be investigated by Food Safety team.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/02/2009 18:02

@ toe nail

I wont go to Tescos for a number of reasons, and this just reinforces it for me.

FruitynNutty · 09/02/2009 19:45

Thanks for your help guys
Mrsseanbean I've just looked the number up thank you. I'll be calling them tomorrow!

I second Mrs SBE, forget taking it to tescos, go to the council.
and/or your local paper!

madhairday · 09/02/2009 19:54

Let us know what they say Fruity, poor you, I agree about going to council, Tesco will do sod all I imagine

alicecrail · 09/02/2009 20:23

Hehe gentleotter How long did it take to think that one up? It was very clever!

ABloke · 10/02/2009 07:48

Oh Ha ha ha ha

I would like to see your faces when slipping an after-eight into your mouth and biting into a baby slug. [eugh]

I cannot eat them any more... and what is more, I thought I was just unlucky, so I bought more (2 for 1) and YES, there was a BIG DADDY SLUG!

[horrified]

I still have 1 box upstairs, I cannot bring myself to open it. No doubt they have been mating in the after-eights sleeves and there will be multiple slugs.

Bloody Tesco.

I once had atemporary job at Morrisons HQ in the PR department.
There wasn't room not important enough for me to share an office with the PR manager, so I was next door in with the Customer service ladies..
They were BRILLIANT, knew their stuff, very firma and fair, knew somebody on the make a mile off and really looked after those with a genuine complaint. everything got lab tested etc too (across the corridor) and they could tell how long said 'foreign object' was there etc.

you'll definately get something back if you complain to the HQ number.

FruitynNutty · 10/02/2009 08:16

But that's Morrisons escape I imagine Tesco is a completely different kettle of......er....toenails......

ComeWhineWithMe · 10/02/2009 08:30

Ha I rang morrisons to complain after making some of their own brand chicken soup and wondering half way down why it tasted furry after looking I found loads of grey feathers in it .
We took it back on and they accused of us doing it ourselves (yes because I have a stash of feathers) and refused to take it back from us .

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 10/02/2009 08:55

Escape, if you complain to the council they also notify the supermarket HQ, I know because my Dad found a shard of glass in a Cornish pasty recently . The Council are checking the production line and have also notified him he will get compensation from Sainsburys. I always worry that if you just go to the supermarket they will bung you a gift card or similar but not really investigate thoroughly enough. Maybe I am just too cynical though.

FruitynNutty · 10/02/2009 14:12

Just thought I'd update.

Unfortunately (stupidly) I didn't keep the outer sleeve it came in, just the container you cook it in. So Environmental Health can't do anything as they can't get any info from it (I'm such an idiot) So, looks like I'll be taking it back to Tesco. I'm just worried about what else is in that batch I'm also worried Tesco will think I've planted it myself to get compensation I'll still take it back though. Just wondering if it's best to take it back to the branch I bought it from or to a larger branch. I bought it from one of those local Tescos that are joined to Esso petrol stations......

my sister found a chickens claw in her chinses takeaway once
she stil ate it all though ...ewwwwwww

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 10/02/2009 17:31

Oh Fruity, what a shame. I can't believe Tesco would seriously think you detatached a bit of your own toenail to plant in a meal though? I mean, who would do anything so gross and convoluted for - ooh let me see - a £5 giftcard? Hopefully it was a one-off incident and there is not an avalanche of toenails lurking on the production line.

I must admit I am a bit aghast when 'little cook' goes off on his travels to food production lines and you see the staff there handling produce with their bare hands (ewww, they could have just picked their nose)... Let's hope they are all hand washers.

alicecrail · 10/02/2009 17:49

How would a toenail get in anyway? A fingernail is almost understandable but what were they doing, stirring it with their feet?

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2009 18:01

how do you know it was a toe rather than finger nail?

HolyGuacamole · 10/02/2009 18:19

My DH found a long black hair running right through the middle of a fudge bar from M&S.

Was going to send it back and complain but just ended up throwing it in the bin. Will never eat one of them again though!! Yuck!!

FruitynNutty · 10/02/2009 19:01

I don't know it was a toe nail. It was rather long though. Maybe someone with huge fingers? Doesn't matter to me, still gross and shouldn't have been in there. They should be wearing gloves for a start!

Yuck, definitely worth taking it back to tesco.

I found what I thought were stones in a warburtons fruit loaf, thought I had broken a tooth - I wrote to them, enlosing the "stones" they wrote back to say that it was unmixed ingredients - so they must have done some kind of analysis on them.

I got £5 of warburtons vouchers and an aplogy.

Alicecrail - surely if they had seen that your husband was over 18 what did it matter if you were in fact 15 - so long as there is one adult to purchase alcohol what is the problem - how odd

alicecrail · 10/02/2009 19:22

Well, this was my point. I said to them, my dd is only a year, she is not old enough either. This means that a parent cannot buy alcohol when they have got their children with them. Wankers! My dh said to the checkout woman "surely i should get her drunk before i get her pregnant!" she wasn't amused

messageinabottle · 10/02/2009 19:35

I found a maggot in a pistachio shell once.

I couldn't complain because I couldn't bear touching it/looking at it/moving it - it just made me feel too ill (I had already eaten half the bag).

Makes my tummy go funny typing this now!

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2009 19:44

Oh there's a big push now not to sell alcohol to anyone with anyone looking under 18/21 to stop them buying it for the underage person.
Although they do need some common sense- if that person is in nappies and sitting in the child seat yu would hope that wouldn't count!

alicecrail · 10/02/2009 19:47

Its madness i tell you

RiojaLover75 · 10/02/2009 20:13

Bet I can gross you out even more. Bought fish for a fish pie from Tescos and was cutting it up ready to cook when I found what I thought looked like a worm!!???

Poked around in the cod and sure enough there were several small 1cm long white worms! What was worse was that they were still alive and wriggling.

Phoned Tesco CS and they said oh yes this is quite common!!!WHTF??!!! They're cod worms. . Took back to the shop and after several weeks they gave me £20 voucher. Have never bought cod there since.
