I can't find it anywhere! I tried some shitey imitation the other day and it was NO GOOD.

I need lovely Sosmix.

what is it?

AnarchyHeart · 04/02/2009 20:22

Yeah, it was discontinued a while ago.

The replacement they brought out costs over twice as much, and is not vegan

AnarchyHeart · 04/02/2009 20:23

It is (was) a dried mix that you rehydrated for making veggy sausages.

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 20:41

What's the replacement called and where can you get it? (I know the imitation sosmix i bought wasn't the new stuff)

I rememner sosmix from my veggie 80s days - it was quite nice...hope you find a replacement.

bluebump · 04/02/2009 20:46

Wah? I used to live on this, I had no idea it had been discontined.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/02/2009 21:00

Good lord, i'd forgotten about sosmix. I used to make a brilliant sausage plait type thing with it.

The name was wrong though wasn't it. Sounds revolting, tbf.

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 21:04

Mmmm I made lovely sausage rolls which were always a HUGE hit at parties.

AnarchyHeart · 04/02/2009 21:06

Not sure what the new one is called but its made by Granose iirc, who bought up Direct Foods.

Lincolnshire Sausage Mix maybe?

bangandthedirtisgone · 04/02/2009 21:07

I made the sausage plait too.

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 21:07

Where did you buy it? I've looked in Tesco, Waitrose, Holland and Barrett and the local veggie/health shop, but to no avail.

OP posts:
yellowvan · 04/02/2009 21:08

Yes, gutted. Apparently it's subsumed under the granose name and is no longer vegan. There is a petition hereto say make it vegan again.
I miss sosmix and broccoli pie

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 21:10

Is the Granose stuff v similar to Sosmix? I'm not vegan! (But will happily sign the petition!)

Local health food shop has it, but it looks nasty to me. This stuff

I liked the pinkness of Sosmix. And the neutral flavour so you could add things - grated apple and cheese was good.

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 21:14

Oh don't AH. You're going to make me cry.

OP posts:
gemmiegoatlegs · 04/02/2009 21:14

it was so bizarrely pink though, wasn't it? We even took it camping once!

AnarchyHeart · 04/02/2009 21:19

It was the most wonderfully adaptable stuff.

I had forgotten how much I miss it until I saw this thread.

[weeps]

SobranieCocktail · 04/02/2009 21:21

Why the fuck did they change it??? The health shop said they sold shed-loads of the stuff.

OP posts:
AnarchyHeart · 04/02/2009 21:26

Yes mine said the same

I think if you dig about on google there are places that still have 1kg bags in stock but with a short shelf life.

But the ingredients were simple enough - wonder if it'd be possible to make it?

lessonlearned · 05/02/2009 01:20

Oh god - why???
I knitted 2 perfect children out if it! I can;t believe it doesnt exist

janeite · 05/02/2009 09:48

Lol at knitting children out of it.

I didn't like it much but bil still talks about the sozmix sausage rolls I used to make about 15 years ago!

It always made me feel a bit squeamish - the pinkness and the little crunchy bits all seemed a bit wrong and made me think of tinned salmon.

SobranieCocktail · 05/02/2009 17:41

knitting children - LOL

God it was revolting! My mum is a vegetarian and it was quite a staple in our house while we were growing up. Foul.

ProfYaffle · 05/02/2009 17:48

Oh Sosmix! Ahhh, being veggie in the 80's wasn't much fun was it? Remember Nutolene? Plastic slop in a tin. I loved Sizzles though, the bacon flavoured Sosmix. Lived off it as a student.
