I know that some people out there must like fruit cooked with savoury foods, but none of us like it, and I quite frankly think it is odd.

I mean, who on earth thought that lemon would taste nice on fish or infused with chicken, or that roast pork should have apple sauce with it....

maybe it is just me, but seriously, it tastes awful!

and I can say this because tonight I cooked a roast chicken basted in garlic and lemon. I could not taste any garlic (altho I like it strong and so I do think I have broken mine and every elses taste buds regarding garlic), but the lemon taste was really strong and off putting.

I'm on the fruity side Apart from coconut, which I'm very allergic to.

However I do concur that fruitiness in the form of ''glass du vino'' (or something like that) tis the best

geordieminx · 05/11/2008 20:33

Sweet and sour chicken - its like having jam on your dinner

nickytwotimes · 05/11/2008 20:35

I'm back to fight for the no-fruit-in-my-dinner squad.
went off for a bath me.

PsychoGuyFawkesMum · 05/11/2008 20:37

nicky2times, sorry, am now too merry for fighting....

DH doesn't particularly like fruit with savoury foods, neither do the boys, but I love it.

I, however, can't stand garlic, onions, mushrooms....bleugh.

I love fruit generally, and dislike veg (well most of it.)

Pineapple on pizza is just wrong though.
And on gammon for that matter.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/11/2008 20:42

What about mint sauce - bet someone thought that up for a joke.

Oooh let's serve a bit of lamb, stick some mint on it and no one will notice how greasy and fatty it is. YUK

TheInvisibleGuyWentBANG · 05/11/2008 20:47

unknown, Garlic is a must in our house.

Hmm..does whisky count as a fruit or veg???Or can we come up with any way it could be conceived as such??

Dh has just offered me one as I moaned about having finished no wine, and am trying to convince myself it's ok to have on a 'school night'

nickytwotimes · 05/11/2008 20:48

Cheers!

You are not odd. I have never understood raisins in curries or worst of all Bread and butter pudding!

Blergh!

I love savoury food. I don't like heated up fruits that much.

TheInvisibleGuyWentBANG · 05/11/2008 21:20

ooh..i like everyones train of thought from whisky- fruit.

Will now take my one-of-five-a-day to bed with my book, as dh has footie on tv and it's doing my head in!!

FrazzledFairyFay · 05/11/2008 21:21

twoluvlykids · 05/11/2008 21:34

nannyL · 05/11/2008 21:42

lemon with fish and pork with apple sauce is yummy IMO also turkey with cranberry sauce, pork and apple casserole / chicken nuggety things with grated apple in, and mil curry with a bit of apple

raisens in curry and pineapple on pizza is yuk IMO

RustyBear · 05/11/2008 21:49

Chicken is good with lots of fruits - lemon, orange, apricots & I used to do a gorgeous chicken dish with raspberries, but I've forgotten what was in it & I lost that cookery book when the cold water tank flooded the kitchen...

My favourite lunch at the moment is cold chicken with fruit - esp apple, grapes, apricots & pineapple

I do hate mint with lamb though - or at least I hate mint sauce, but I think it's the vinegar in it I really don't like.
