I know that some people out there must like fruit cooked with savoury foods, but none of us like it, and I quite frankly think it is odd.

I mean, who on earth thought that lemon would taste nice on fish or infused with chicken, or that roast pork should have apple sauce with it....

maybe it is just me, but seriously, it tastes awful!

and I can say this because tonight I cooked a roast chicken basted in garlic and lemon. I could not taste any garlic (altho I like it strong and so I do think I have broken mine and every elses taste buds regarding garlic), but the lemon taste was really strong and off putting.

I have a bit of a thing about mixing fruit and savoury food (excluding lemon, lime, and sweet chilli sauce which I have with almost everything). My idea of hell is a sweet and sour anything or moroccan food with apricots in. Also loathe foods like squash and sweet potato that are too sweet for my taste.

you sound like my dh
he thinks it's revolting to add cranberry sauce to turkey, pineapple to pizza, to mix sweet and sour, apple sauce etc
I love it.

PsychoGuyFawkesMum · 05/11/2008 19:23

I LOVE mixing sweet and savoury. My signature salad contains lettuce, grated carrot, grated apple, cheese, tuna, raisins, gherkins and sweetcorn. Delicious .

PsychoGuyFawkesMum · 05/11/2008 19:24

oh, I forgot to add coconut.

I LOATHE bits of coconut. love the taste (well, in malibu), hate the bits and the texture.....

I love all those things, apple sauce on pork, cranberry on chicken/turkey, mint sauce on lamb, pineapple on pizza, mango chutney on a brie and bacon sandwich etc etc.

My mum would agree with all of you though, she thinks all sauces (apart from HP and she only puts that on sausages) are rank.

PsychoGuyFawkesMum · 05/11/2008 19:28

seems I may have split MN then......

some love it, some hate it

I love lemon on chicken, cranberry sauce, mango chutney etc The sauces are really to cut through the fat of the meat.

I'm with you on this - I can't stand fruit with savoury dishes, especially meat.
