Joyless Snack No. 157: nuts

JackieNo · 03/11/2008 11:13

In an attempt to be more healthy, and cut down on my chocolate consumption, I've been having a mid morning snack of nuts and raisins. Today, for some reason, I decided not to add the raisins, and even though they're roasted nuts, they're just soooo tedious.

you should dip them in chocohhhhh never mind!

MrsMattie · 03/11/2008 11:16

'Replace your morning coffee & chocolate biscuits with a nice handful of nuts and a glass of water'. They always say this in diet guides, don't they? What a load of bollocks!

JackieNo · 03/11/2008 11:17

Damn - I got all excited there, thinking that was a tip. But thanks for the warning, mildmannered. Baked chickpeas, eh . Whoever thought that one up? Maybe the same person who tries to kid us that Carob is like chocolate.

I like nuts. But those dried soya beans are a bit challenging.

JackieNo · 03/11/2008 11:20

Ah - Xpost . Oh well, you have to try these things, don't you. Just in case they're delicious .

pigleto, I like nuts too, but somehow the dried fruit with them makes all the difference when I'm having them as a snack.

what about mixing them up with spices and things.

Plain nuts are just dull.

scattercushion · 03/11/2008 11:24

those 'healthy alternatives' articles make me laugh - swap pizza for lettuce. Swap chips for chippings.

If a nut is to be palatable it must be roasted and salted - thereby undoing all the good nutrition you could potentially be getting into yourself.

JackieNo · 03/11/2008 11:37

I quite like Ryvita, but only with loads of butter on it, which kind of defeats the object of it. I even like celery, and cottage cheese. Maybe I need to bring in cottage cheese...

I love nuts - plain / roasted / salted... I even love a handful of seeds though, so maybe I'm a bit sad.

Ah yes, the cottage cheese simili!!! Put me off forever too.

On the other hand, I do enjoy plain cashew nuts >

snowleopard · 03/11/2008 11:49

Nuts are hugely calorific aren't they though? To avoid eating too much chocolate, my preferred joyless snack is leftover cooked veg - I try to make too much so there are leftovers in the fridge. A nice cold carrot, sprout or mange tout can actually be delicious. Really!

JackieNo · 03/11/2008 11:52

I really like cottage cheese - especially mixed with a can of sweetcorn . Not sure I could do cold sprouts.

I am getting over a stomach bug thing, so maybe it's just that. I've been having the darn nuts/raisins combo every day for blimmin ages without any problems, it's just today that I'm a bit jaded.

Oh dear, a cold sprout! No, no, no, noooooooooooooooooooo
