Or some veg and make a soup (couple of potatoes, a few few leeks and some stock) - servie with bread?

mum2jakeyroo · 08/10/2008 10:30

Do you have cupboard essentials in. Mince in asda at the min is only £1. so that could do loads.

Overmydeadbody · 08/10/2008 10:31

What have you already got?

and which shop will you be going to?(tesco/sainsbo?...)

Overmydeadbody · 08/10/2008 10:33

big bag of pasta and a jar of pesto?

four packs of cheap instant noodles (11peach), chcuck away flavouring packet, cook and serve with stir fried carrots, onion, courgette and garlic and soy sauce (thicken the sauce with a little corn flour)

stewart2000 · 08/10/2008 10:34

go to asda, i have no meat or anything, have couple of onions and some pasta, so guess best way to go is get some mince and make a spag bol with garlic bread.

talk about skint, mind u it does make u think that yes actually u can cope even if u feel shit doing it.

Yes get a couple of packs of the £1 two tins of smart price tomatoes. Make a huge spag bol today then put the left overs in the fridge and turn those into a chilli tommorrow.

ledodgy · 08/10/2008 10:35

*£1 mince

CharleeInChains · 08/10/2008 10:35

Know what you mean Stewart, i had to do my weeks shopping on £9 in tesco for a few months a while ago, you do feel shit but at the same time quite good becuase you know you can survive without alot of money.

I would go with spag bol.

stewart2000 · 08/10/2008 10:39

All todays tesco prices

4 baking potatoes £0.72
2 tins tuna 2x185grams £1.30
1 small tin sweetcorn £0.38

altogether £2.40

60p left over for packet of treats/biscuits as baked potatoes and tuna and sweetcorn lovely and healthy.

FAQ · 08/10/2008 10:42

I wouldn't even bother with the garlic bread tbh stewart - you've got the pasta

mummyplonk · 08/10/2008 10:43

Smart price garlic bread only 45p and just as good

CharleeInChains · 08/10/2008 10:43

I brought a huge tesco bag of pasta, tin tomatoes and tuna and frozen sweetcorn. tesco own loaf and baked beans and value nappies.

We had a few store cupboard bits but not alot.

We survived that week on,

Tuna Pasta Salad
Pasta in tomato sauce
Beans on toast
tuna mayo on toast

A boring week foodwise but we all survived.

Four big baking potatoes & beans, cheese or bacon on top if you can?

If mince is really that cheap, then shepherds pie is another option.

FAQ · 08/10/2008 10:46

I know our Morrisons had 4 (decent sized) baking potatoes for 50p the other day - were gorgeous with (value) cheese grated on and a tin of (value) beans

Was about to chip in with the morrisons potatoes for 50p tip FAQ. Love bargains like that!

FAQ · 08/10/2008 10:53

was very pleaed - was wandering round trying to find something quick and easy to cook for dinner - and there they were

minorbirdOnElmstreet · 08/10/2008 10:58

And the week before 4 big tins of branston baked beans for £1. Just wish decent tuna wasn't so expensive. Even when it's on offer it's still quite dear.
