ASDA-SMart Price, come and tell me whats ok and whats not.............

had an online shop delivered from asda last week and was impressed BUT would still like to get the amount down.

spent £115 which did feed us for a week but previously was spending around 90-100 per week.

i didnt have any smart price stuff cos dont know whats good and whats not.

but i will use asda again and so would be grateful if those who buy smart price could give me their tips.

I find Asda Smartprice to usually be identical to Tesco Value.

trinity yes i realise its not rocket science however theres no harm in asking for details of good products and those which may need to be avoided is there?

I get all Asda smartprice stuff anf find its really good, the only things DH doesn't like in them is the marrowfat peas.

The only thing I don't like are the cornflakes. I think I've tried pretty much everything else except for the ready meals as I like to cook and don't have a microwave.
The way things are atm pretty much if it isn't Smartprice I don't buy it.
I was reading the Tesco Value thread earlier though and would agree that mixing half and half can be great with things like the washing powder and some cereals.
I do it with the shower gel and shampoo too and buy seperate toothpaste-Smartprice for night, branded for morning as I like something really minty and fresh before I leave the house.
It may only save a few pennies but they all add up

I am not keen on the forzen veg and prefer the asda value range of that.
The salad chees is lovely just like feta!
The mixed pack of biscuits are fine.
The yoghurts are nice too have tried the fromage frais, choc mouse and creme caramel all nice!

smartprice greek yoghurt is not good. Apart from that I buy tinned tomatoes and all other tinned stuff. Bananas. Strawberries (when they have them).

I used to buy the peppers too, but lidl have them at 30p each so I am going there

I did a side-by-side test of the mozzarella recently and preferred the smart price one! Potatoes good; onions good-- only difference with onions is that they are small so a bit of a pita if you're cooking something that needs loads, on the other hand quite handy if you only need half a one. Think the peppers are great value, but I try to use them up quickly as they seem to go soft faster than regular ones.

i buy bananas, apples, all the fruit and veg really, even the fromage frais sometimes for kids although if there is an offer on on other youghurts it works out cheaper

tinned tomatoes, kidney beans things like that lasagne strips, pasta etc

tomatoes, i wouldnt by butter not keen on that, or soups r a bit watery.

even swap a few things and try them u will notice a difference in ur bill

i've been trying out smart price stuff. So far i've found these v good:

Mozzerella
Brown bread
Apple juice
Longlife milk
Apples
Fresh Turkey pieces

Bought a huge pack of muesli which i've not tried yet.

tinned fruit, beans, tomatoes carrots etc etc are all fine.
biscuits are nice, kids n dh cant tell the difference
cereals, not so good.
pasta sheets, no difference from expensive ones.

The ASDA Coco-pops are wonderful.

you might not see this since no1's posted since Monday but DON'T buy spartprice frozen mince whatever you do!!!! Buy the fresh stuff, the frozen has a funny taste to it IMO. whereas the fresh is good for lasagne, spag bol, mince n onions, chilli, shepherds pie etc etc

smartprice dried pasta 19p a pack is good.
biscuits are fine
even used the frozen chips recently and they are ok
tinned tomotoes fine
scotch pancakes and crumpets also good

some things I really can not tell the difference; some maybe not as good but the price difference makes it worth it.

Asda smartprice frozen cauliflower is fantastic, I have no idea why it's as cheap as it is, I honestly can't see a difference between it and other cauli (I use it as a mash potato substitute and get through shedloads, so price is an issue...)

SP tinned toms are fine if watery - would go for whole plum rather than chopped - SP scotch pancakes and own-brand cocopops are eaten without complaint by Mrs Fussypants DD, so they must be nice!

we too smart price everything if poss apart from ready meals and meat. All fine especially the choclate covered biscuits, chewy bars.
One thing i would point out is that tesco value washing powder which is DIRT CHEAP is in fact made by Jeyes (you know, of Jeyes Liquid) and therefore is actually a very highly researched and tested product. So dont be put off by the fact that it says Tesco , the product itself is actually top notch.

yup tis true. we used to know someone who worked for jeyes. its amazing which products are infact made by them but branded by different people. sainsburys are a big player too

I buy loads in asda, mostly smart price.

lmao @ mrsleroyjethro and purple pillow! i thought it was just me who watched it cos noone i know does!!

We usually shop in asda n get sp stuff, just really not impressed with the forzen mince but everything else we get is alright, my lo and oh never complain!
