had an online shop delivered from asda last week and was impressed BUT would still like to get the amount down.

spent £115 which did feed us for a week but previously was spending around 90-100 per week.

i didnt have any smart price stuff cos dont know whats good and whats not.

but i will use asda again and so would be grateful if those who buy smart price could give me their tips.

TIA

Try MySupermarket.co.uk to compare prices.

It will offer suggestions to alter your trolley to save money (or calories!) by changing brand and/or pack size - might make your trolley seem more expensive at first but careful changes save money in the long run.

If you decide to do an online shop, it will transfer your chosen trolley automatically.

And you can get ipoints on your online shop if you go through them.

Win win all round

Smart Price porridge oats - you'd think porridge oats are porridge oats, but they aren't - they didn't make good porridge

2p sausages ;) yes I know I know, but I like them!

Smart Price instant mash - same as Mr Mash imo, but needs seasoning

Beans and tomatoes and sweetcorn, all good, as is the frozen veg

Pasta good

Gammon steaks good

Eggs good if you aren't bothered by the whole Hugh Feanrly Whittingstall balls

The 1 litre cartons of fruit juice are OK. Their tinned tomatoes and beans are also fine, as are any dried pasta/rice.
Most of the fruit and veg we've had has been great but we did have 2 bags of dodgy potatoes last week.

I'm a committed ASDA online shopper. It's spectacularly cheap VS Tesco. I can only begin to make them comparable if Tesco send me big fat vouchers and beg me to come back with money-off-petrol offers

Fadge - loving your name

2p sausages?

onthepier · 13/07/2008 22:05

I agree with you lucysmam on the frozen mince, when I used it in a shepherds pie it just disintegrated + turned to mush! Their fresh mince seems fine though, as long as you don't freeze it!

lucysmam · 14/07/2008 09:18

I've never had a problem with the fresh if I've frozen it but you're right, the frozen stuff did just turn into mush which wasn't very appetising!

well each sausage works out at 2p, it's 16p a pack

I tried something new today, Smart Price Philly 48p - omfg it's so very very like Philly, I blind taste tested my hubby and he said it was like Philly but creamier - so there you have it -

SP Philly is gooooooooooooooooood

IARCFB - cheers

bluefox · 14/07/2008 19:58

Smart price apples are lovely. We also like SP plain crisps about 51p for a multipack of 6 - better and less greasy than the leading brand.

lucysmam · 14/07/2008 21:05

i've never seen 16p packs of sausages but am off for my fortnightly trip to asda on friday so will be looking out for them. r they frozen or fresh ones?

TattooedGrrrl · 18/07/2008 14:44

also, the naan bread's great. 49p for 2. DH announced they were the best supermarket naans he'd tasted.
