How do I remove burnt food from a Le Crousette pan?

I forgot about a pan of boiling sweet potato I had on the stove & it boiled dry. It’s a Le Crousette pan & the potato is now welded on. Any suggestions on how/if can salvage it?

(nb appreciate this is a first world problem. I do have plenty of other more challenging problems in my life! The pan is only one of two saucepans we currently own & its 3rd hand).

Good to know! I have never tried that so may do next time

I know I’m late to the conversation but nobody has mentioned Barkeeper’s Friend powder.
That’s my favourite when scouring powder is too much, in fact I’ve stopped buying VIM or equivalent because BKF has so many other uses.

What? How are you supposed to know not to do that? I thought pans like these were supposed to be pretty indestructible . I have a John Lewis version that I treat very badly and its still pristine.

To be fair to them, it does actually say in their small (teeny tiny) print that you should only fry stuff on a low or medium heat. I was pretty non plussed about being told I shouldn't have cooked with olive oil (low burning point apparently) given how I imagine this is the oil of choice for most people who buy LC.

Also, excellent photos OP.

I carbonised the bottom of mine by forgetting about some plum chutney. Gigantic lumps of carbon stuck to the bottom. I tried several of the remedies above and nothing worked.

Several months later, I was gonna buy a new one in our local John Lewis and the assistant said I should try to rely on their lifetime guarantee. I sent an email with necessary details to the relevant address and they sent me a brand new pan as a goodwill gesture (tho warning me I shouldn’t have let it over burn in the first place, which was probs fair).

Sodium Percarbonate (aka percarbonate of soda, or oxi bleach) works absolute wonders on burnt Le Creusets.

Been burning mine for 40 years. Simmer with water & soda bicarbonate in for a bit.

Thank you for the photos, OP. Excellent public service 👏

I think you’ll get the remainder off with a magic eraser x

Impressive job there OP! I know it's not quite pristine but what an improvement. I also found the dishwasher tablet method best when I bought an ancient, wrecked le creuset for £10 on a car boot.

I put a tumble dryer sheet and a little water in mine on the heat, and it worked after a few days.
