How do I remove burnt food from a Le Crousette pan?

Daffodils88 · 12/06/2026 10:39

I forgot about a pan of boiling sweet potato I had on the stove & it boiled dry. It’s a Le Crousette pan & the potato is now welded on. Any suggestions on how/if can salvage it?

(nb appreciate this is a first world problem. I do have plenty of other more challenging problems in my life! The pan is only one of two saucepans we currently own & its 3rd hand).

My gran used to swear by gently simmering full fat coke to remove burnt on food from hers never tried it myself though!

This also works with rhubarb, bizarrely.

Le Creusette are bastards. Once something sticks on them you're doooomed!

Branleuse · 12/06/2026 10:43

Leave it to soak with mix of bicarb of soda and washing up liquid for an hour or two

BlicklingBabe · 12/06/2026 10:44

Leave it overnight with a dishwasher tablet and water in it.

EverybodyLTB · 12/06/2026 10:44

Has anyone got wonderful ideas for one that has got rust on its edges/rim?

AsItRains · 12/06/2026 10:44

Just checking you mean Le Creuset?
If so, fill it with water till the potato is covered and simmer till the potato comes off. You can add baking soda if it's bad.

laughingnow · 12/06/2026 10:44

Dishwasher or laundry tablet or bio powder and soak it off

No need to be a dick, we all know what the OP meant.

If you mean Le Creuset, the cast iron pans, then similar happened to mine. I just left it to soak overnight then boiled it up the next day with soda crystals (not bicarbonate). All the burnt bits came floating off. I then washed as normal.

It shouldn’t have got rusty, not sure how get rid but to avoid it oil the pans after washing.

That’s what I do. It’s Le Creuset. I do have similar from Habitat as well as Le Creuset and it’s just as good.

People need to stop pretending they don't know what the OP means, it's bloody obvious!
OP have you tried just giving it a really good soak in washing up liquid and very hot water?

AnnPerkins · 12/06/2026 10:57

I've done this a couple of times, it's not hard for food to catch on the bottom of a Le Creuset unfortunately.
I loosened the burnt bits by boiling a little water with bicarb sprinkled in and then it scrubbed off easily.

You don't have to justify yourself. They're nice pans and it's a shame if they get spoiled. Any residual burnt bits would make food catch even more easily if left. It's only through taking good care of them that they are good enough to hand down multiple times.

Leave it to soak in boiling water and washing up liquid then use the pink stuff paste and the scourer side of a washing up sponge in rotations. I did the same to my habitat one and the pink stuff worked like magic ✨

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/06/2026 11:02

Defo recommend a mix of bicarb and washing up liquid...liquid first, then sprinkle over a layer of bicarb and pour on some boiling water, it will fizz up so not too much water. Leave it to soak for an hour or so and rinse. Also works on greasy air fryers

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/06/2026 11:08

Simmer water & bio washing powder in it for 30 mins.

I've never see Le Creuset written the way people say it out loud 😂

Don’t criticise or you’ll get your post deleted like I did. I actually thought the way it was written in the OP it was another brand.

No, you didn’t. You were being snarky for very little reason.

I really wasn’t. anyway my points were valid. Some get let off for saying this, others don’t.

Angelchick1971 · 12/06/2026 11:38

Cheap tomato ketchup ( doesn't have to be cheap to work but there's no point wasting heinz lol) literally cover the burnt bits with a thick layer and leave for a good few hours. I don't know why it works but it does 🙂

oliviaAustin · 12/06/2026 12:19

Baking soda. Make a paste. Use a scrubber. It’ll come off with elbow grease.
