Which mince pie team are you: cream, ice cream or custard?

I'm normally team custard, but have enjoyed them with ice cream, though it's a strong contrast since I always heat my mince pies.

I have a friend who dunks them, cold, in her tea, which I haven't yet tried.

Anything other than brandy butter served with warm mince pies is an abomination.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 19/11/2025 18:13

Cream. Especially boozy cream. Not keen on custard and it’s a bit cold for ice cream. Although I often have ice cream on Christmas pudding.

I really need some Baileys squirty cream to
top my hot chocolate !

Squirty cream

Fiftyandme · 19/11/2025 18:46

You bunch of heathens

The only acceptable toppings are:

Brandy butter

Brandy butter 😄

Yep!

BeanQuisine · 21/11/2025 12:51

Currently dunking a mince pie into a strong Irish Coffee (coffee with a generous slug of whisky in it, topped with cream).

Quite gratifying. 😋

With Stilton

Omg yes take the lid off and slide a slice underneath, replace lid, cram in mouth. Wash down with baileys spiked flat white. December breakfast ✅

DancingInTheMoonlights · 21/11/2025 13:24

Clotted cream!

Zippedydodah · 21/11/2025 13:26

No pie just custard and ice cream please 🙏

Serpentstooth · 22/11/2025 07:25

Local baker makes them with a - don't know what it's called - topping like a viennoise biscuit, a soft crumb, buttery, melting mouthful. No cream or custard required.

PollyBell · 22/11/2025 07:26

As is

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 22/11/2025 07:29

Cream. Always cream. Custard is disgusting, I have never liked it, and find ice cream boring.

LilyCanna · 22/11/2025 07:32

I’ve never heard of eating mince pies with any of those things! I didn’t realise people had them as a dessert, for me they’re always a snack with a cup of tea at home or offered alongside mulled wine at festive events.
As someone who dislikes cream and custard and doesn’t have a particularly sweet tooth I would much rather have au naturel with a cup of tea thanks than any gloop added…

tripleginandtonic · 22/11/2025 07:55

Cream

BeanQuisine · 22/11/2025 11:20

Just tried a heated mince pie with blue cheese (Gorgonzola Dolce rather than Stilton).

Verdict: pleasant at first but a slightly “chemical” aftertaste, possibly because these particular mince pies contain rum, which didn’t really blend happily with the blue bits of the cheese.

These particular pies will probably work better with a cheddar.

Pure filth! 😂

I feel ice cream and mince pies are a weird combination mainly because there’s no specific benefit of the ice cream? It will end up melting and turning into watery cream/liquid anyway, so you may as well just go with a decent cream/liquid to begin with. The cold temperature/firmer texture isn’t bringing anything.

PickAChew · 22/11/2025 11:53

Neither. They're good as they are.

NormasArse · 22/11/2025 11:59

I like mine virgin- like the Madonna.

PerspicaciaTick · 23/11/2025 11:40

With a cup of tea.

Crwysmam · 04/01/2026 20:20

Brandy butter.

PrincessOfPreschool · 04/01/2026 20:24

This is so strange. I only ever eat them with a cup of coffee or tea, instead of a biscuit or a slice of cake! I wouldn't put ice cream on a biscuit or fruit cake either.
