i have a large piece of gammon I want to use but don’t want it cold or with chips. Serving hot would need some sort of sauce. Any ideas please?

Mash and cauliflower cheese.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/01/2025 14:55

I would serve it with either baked or boiled potatoes, parsley sauce and peas.

I love leek and cauliflower cheese with a gammon joint.. with buttery steamed new potatoes.

PubicZirconia · 25/01/2025 14:55

Mash and corn on the cob

SushiWarrior · 25/01/2025 14:55

My favourite is with mash, peas, tender stem broccoli and a cheese bechamel sauce over the gammon.

Dartmoorcheffy · 25/01/2025 14:56

I would have it with all the normal roast dinner trimmings.

Traditionally gammon is served with parsley sauce, but I prefer it with gravy..

Or you could just have it with cauliflower cheese and mash.

Dauphinoise potatoes, leeks and peas.

fanaticalfairy · 25/01/2025 14:56

Mash / roast potatoes

Cabbage / peas

nocoolnamesleft · 25/01/2025 14:57

Another vote for Dauphinoise potatoes, and the veg of your choice.

Cream mustard sauce.

CoastalCalm · 25/01/2025 15:01

New potatoes , peas and corn and some cauli cheese

clarrylove · 25/01/2025 15:01

A Jack Daniels sauce goes nice with it. With sweet potato wedges maybe.

Red cabbage and dauphinoise potatoes

We always have our Xmas eve gammon with macaroni cheese. And some sort of cabbage dish as a side. I think you need the combo of the salty ham, the creamy side (so mash or dauphinous potatoes would also work) and something sharp/ acidic with a bit of bite (so we often have red cabbage, or I'll do savoy cabbage stir fried with a bit of vinegar and something like fennel seeds). And then something 'clean' like some lightly steamed green beans.

And pineapple …

Sgtmajormummy · 25/01/2025 15:23

The Irish way, with buttered boiled cabbage. Love it.
I made it last Christmas and did all the traditional sides, so mash, roasties, Brussels sprouts, peas and carrots (not parsnips, ugh).
I made gravy in advance.

Boulangere potatoes are gorgeous- sliced potatoes and onions layered, then smothered in stock and baked. Like a lighter version of dauphinous.

AdaColeman · 25/01/2025 15:53

Gammon goes well with colcannon. Also anything au gratin, cauliflower, broccoli, drum head cabbage, potatoes.

HornyHornersPinger · 25/01/2025 16:00

Roast potatoes, creamy parsley sauce, sweetcorn 😋

Foxgloverr · 25/01/2025 16:02

Delia's Cumberland sauce.

LadyPenelope68 · 25/01/2025 16:33

Dauphinois and peas or baked potatoes and cauliflower cheese. No added sauce needed.

Hayley1256 · 25/01/2025 16:36

Bread Sauce, potatoes & veg

Togetheragain45 · 25/01/2025 16:37

For the sauce:
4 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons mustard
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice from a small tin of pineapple
Black pepper
2 tablespoons flour

Whisk together, cook until thickened. Add water if too thick.

Eat with new potatoes, a few pineapple cubes carrots and peas, or cabbage.
