Here it is - all welcome, long termers and newbies, I imagine this week is leftovers leftovers leftovers and kicking off from Thursday onwards.

ive gone back to Oddbox and our deliveries now come on Friday nights so I’m going to try to force my brain to meal plan Thursday-Thursday and have delivery on Thursdays to make it happen. Won’t happen this week but hopefully from next

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I say stick with the egg idea, but I could happily eat huevos rancheros every single day!

I've never had them - definitely time to try them!

SpaceOP · 27/03/2025 19:56

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I am loving the sort of over-priced brunch option of fancy sourdough, avocado, boiled/poached eggs, lime, a few leavs, and generously delicious chilli. DS and I had it as a quick meal the other night when DH was out. I loved it vs our usual "breakfast for dinner" option.

My new Emily English book also does a version with hot honey halloumi....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2025 20:46

I need to track down a jar of hot honey. Love the stuff.

It's an actual ingredient? Whenever I see recipes like this you just heat up honey with chilli. The halloumi, egg, hot honey recipe i am going to try actually recommends mixing honey and chilli and salt and microwaving it!

Why didn't I think of that?! Yes, you can buy jars of it, but I've never actually seen them in real life.

I'm an awkward sod though, and can't get my head around eggs and halloumi on the same plate. Might try the halloumi and honey/chilli, minus the eggs.

Haha, I hear you. But eggs and halloumi are two of DS' favourite things so I think he'll love it.

I used to quite often do a version of "hot honey" with halloumi in wraps as a post -school snack when we had to jump in the car and travel for miles for his activity and knew we'd only get home late. Basically toss some green veg I've rubbed with oil and some salt into a hot dry pan - broccoli, leeks, cabbage, onion etc - to char a bit. Remove. Then add a bit of oil and fry halloumi slices (which I'd usually sprinkled some paprika and cumin over). When you turn them over, toss some chopped garlic and a few chilli flakes in, then pour in some honey and some lemon juice and let it caramalise a bit around the halloumi. Throw the whole lot in a wrap and we'd head out the door. Poor man's hot honey? Grin

Sounds great @SpaceOP

I haven't posted for a few weeks as MiL has been staying and there has been no meal planning happening. I've learned the hard way that planning and shopping just results in wastage as MiL prefers to decide day-by-day what she is craving.

It's lasagne tonight and then she's off in the morning and the rest of the week looks like:

Monday: pork chop, pourgouri, salad and tzatziki
Tuesday: pretty much the same but griddled aubergine and halloumi rather than the pork
Wednesday: broccoli quiche, salad and new potatoes
Thursday: chorizo broccoli pasta
Friday: out at a gig so nothing to plan.

SpaceOP · 31/03/2025 09:52

@HalloumiFries is your MIL my MIL? Invite her over for dinner. She comes. Then announces no, she doesn't feel like eating whatever it is I'm serving. <head explodes>

placemarking and following - sorry have been on holiday and working away from home loads so it's basically constantly ramen/pasta/easy food. Boring but pressure off for a bit

Please keep the AI bollocks off this lovely thread!

I ended up making spicy tomato pasta last night and ds is making a Chinese style tofu curry tonight. DP is in charge tomorrow and finally making his beloved chilli!

I’m going to try to get to a Chinese or Korean supermarket on Saturday because I want some fermented black beans and some wife rice noodles. Both will be used in recipes from ‘Dinner’ - black bean tofu and red peppers for the former and drunken noodles for the latter.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 03/04/2025 09:46

Trying to haul my motivation out of retirement as the last few weeks have been a bit dull

Friday: bbq jackfruit sliders with salad and chips
Saturday: Greek orzo bake
Sunday: Dahl and naan
Monday: harissa chickpea stew and whipped feta
Tuesday: kimchi fried rice
wednesday: leftovers
Thursday: peanut gochujang tofu and stirfried veg

HalloumiFries · 04/04/2025 09:30

Eggs and halloumi are a great combination and that recipe looks great.

I've been working out my plan for the week ahead:

Tomorrow: Slow roasted chicken legs with a chorizo and white bean stew and spring greens.
Sunday: Spaghetti and meatballs
Monday: Pasta bake
Tuesday: Lentils and halloumi (from Greekish cookbook, sounds a bit meh but looks lovely!)
Wednesday: Chicken Kyiv, new potatoes and salad
Thursday: Mushroom and spring green ramen
Friday: Chorizo and bean rice with whatever greens are leftover by that point.

Not really meal plan related but this week took an unexpected turn when I got a call on Tuesday from the rescue centre to ask if we were interested in two lovely dogs. Saw them that afternoon, utterly adorable, and picked them up yesterday (I had plans for Wednesday that I couldn't cancel otherwise we would have taken them then!)

So meal plan has gone out of the window mostly as we have been busy shopping for dog related things 😁

I have now remembered to book a shopping delivery for Monday but we are winging it until then!

This week:
Monday: Chinese chicken
Tuesday: Fish finger sandwiches (too excited to do anything more complicated!)
Wednesday: Out
Thursday: Ready meal (Waitrose curry)
Friday: Have had eggs on toast so far, DH will go out to fetch something for dinner later.
Saturday: Cottage pie from freezer
Sunday: Fish of some sort.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/04/2025 08:15

Very jealous of the dogs!

Forgottenmyphone · 05/04/2025 08:50
