Why would anyone buy Pesto?

I am so cross.

For 30 years I have thought that I hated pesto. Turns out I hate the nasty vinegary oily nasty yak that you can buy.

Whizzed up fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts and olive oil with parmesan is blardy lovely!

My god I have a lot of pesto to eat to make up for lost time.

Because to make it you need absolutely TONS of fresh basil ime.

And it is quicker to get it out of a jar - even if only 5 mins quicker, sometimes that's an important 5 mins.

SlartyBartFast · 28/03/2008 20:07

i have made my own, when i grew my own basil
twas delicious.

too mean to actually buy the stuff

moondog · 28/03/2008 20:08

My kids love it,but I'll be buggered if i am going to al lthat faff every time so Sacla it is.

QuintessentialShadows · 28/03/2008 20:09

I just buy those little packs with pasta and pesto and pine nuts from M&S. My sons LOVE it (they are 6 and 2 1/2)

expatinscotland · 28/03/2008 20:09

you can make it with coriander as well.

lovely!

MehgaLegs · 28/03/2008 20:09

The fresgh stuff is much nicer than the jars.

I invented my own pesto dressing - it is gorg and makes my boys eat tonnes of salad.

doggiesayswoof · 28/03/2008 20:09

Yep - I am also lazy.

M&S one (in a jar - not the "fresh" version) or sacla do me fine.

expatinscotland · 28/03/2008 20:09

share with the class, megha.

doggiesayswoof · 28/03/2008 20:10

Me and dd had it tonight actually. I remember I think Franny once called it the middle class fish finger.

SlartyBartFast · 28/03/2008 20:10

what is sacla?

Piffle · 28/03/2008 20:11

Sacla bleurgh much prefer bertolli. We have made it. Actually cost more and did not keep.

LaDiDaDi · 28/03/2008 20:11

Sacla at my house. Yummy yummy. In theory it keeps for ages but in practice it's gone pretty quickly!

Tutter · 28/03/2008 20:12

Life Is Too Short To Make Pesto

morningpaper · 28/03/2008 20:13

yo've got to buy the proper stuff with no venegar - just pine nuts, basil, olive oil and cheese

hoxtonchick · 28/03/2008 20:13

but the stuff in jars is vile. i made some for my nephews once & they refused to eat it - "this isn't our kind of pesto." little buggers.

pointydog · 28/03/2008 20:14

I buy it because I like it and it makes a very fast tea with spaghetti.
