it seems like it! today dh and i were discussing what we would have for dinner and i said "fish, its good friday" he looked at me like i was a lunatic. I may have lapsed years ago, but I would still like to cling to some traditions!

We are meat free today, but more by accident than design. We have a vege couple coming over for dinner tonight so we are having Jamie Oliver's butternut squash soup with parmesan croutons followed by a gorgeous vege lasagne and salad.

We are not a remotely religious household, we don't bother with the fish thing.

Well we are having roast beef, which is sizzling in the oven as I speak. Because with today being a bank holiday, there's time to cook it .

bonkerz · 21/03/2008 13:47

i remember fridays in general and not just good friday being a fish day in our house! Not religious at all but kids will be having fish tonight!

NomDePlume · 21/03/2008 13:48

God, I'm hungry

No meat in this house today!

No meat in this house on any other days either...

captainmummy · 21/03/2008 13:50

I'm not religious at all but we are having delia's haddock in cream sauce, and the dc are having fish fingers. Don't know why.

madamez · 21/03/2008 13:55

Well my mother would always cook fish on Good Friday - but I'm an atheist and see no need to pander to other people's superstitions in my own house. Though to be fair we might just as easily have been eating fish today, what we eat depends on what we've got in, what looks tasty in the shop and what the weather's like.

Buda · 21/03/2008 14:08

Well I was supposed to be meat free but just came home from shopping and was starving so made a ham roll without thinking.

Fish pie for dinner tonight. DH will not be impressed .

wheelybug · 21/03/2008 14:10

no meat here but more by accident than design - just had humous for lunch (dd had ham though !) and we are having lobster pasta for dinner (but thats because I've had the recipe for ages and finally got hold of some reasonably priced lobster because it seemed wrong to spend a lot on something that was going in a pasta !).

InTheseShoes · 21/03/2008 14:17

Yes, we are having fish pie with veg tonight and although we have just had a whispers McDonalds, DS1 and I (Catholics) have had fish, although DH (heathen) has had meat. DS2 (9 months) has had chicken though, that is because we are running out of his dinners in the freezer. It was supplemented by cauli cheese though.

madamez · 21/03/2008 14:18

No alcohol in Dublin today - that's right.

So today is sort of the 22nd anniversary of my Dad catching me up to no good with my then boyf! We had been to a dinner party to say goodbye to bf's best friend who was moving to NY. Came back to my house about 3am. House in darkness. And we knew pubs were shut so I assumed Dad in bed. No. Heard key in the door. Cue panic. Cue much shouting when Dad walked in.

Catholic Ireland - enough said.

Swedes · 21/03/2008 15:49

Fish, or at least, definitely no meat. We had salmon with homemade hollandaise although I admit I put some pancetta in with the peas.

lissielouwithbunnyears · 21/03/2008 15:50

lol buda, was your dad not impressed then

OP posts:
Buda · 21/03/2008 15:53

That is putting it mildly lissie!

BF left and every time the household tried to get to sleep Dad would sit up and shout "that slut" or words to that effect! I got up very early the next morning and ran out the door before anyone was up. Met BF in town and we stayed there till around 6. I came home and managed to avoid my Dad for a while then went out again. It has not been mentioned since!
