Blimey you lot are posh, I'm happy with a bag of Kettle Chips and any old dip.

BBBee · 12/03/2008 19:55

lol but if you are only doing the starter it looks a bit lame to turn up with a bag of kettle chips

I'm more worried about the one bottle of wine between three ..

Proper aubergine caviar(baba ganoush) with proper houmous and decent olives and you could make some spiced baked pitta bread triangles to go with it.

roasted peppers, olives, lovely crusty bread, maybe some lovely ham and brie.

HuwEdwards · 12/03/2008 20:52

slice the cheese on the big mushroom and wrap the lot in slice of parma ham - tis to die for. promise.

Carmenere · 12/03/2008 20:53

this is a decent recipe for the aubergines (you can do them in the oven either tbh)

And this will make a decent houmous

And I make the pitta chips like that but I sprinkle them with cumin seeds, salt and smoked paprika before baking them.

Breaded mozarella fingers
Nachos with graed chees and salsa - microwaved for thirty seconds - yum!
M&S smoke salmon wheels.

For pigs:

Roll out shortcrust pastry. Cut with your mince pie cutters and put in mince pie baking tins. Smear the bottom of each tart with a bit of dijon mustard. Fill with quartered cherry tomatoes. Cover the top with grated gruyere. Baked 10-15 mins at 200. Serve warm not hot.

Yes I roast them tbh, but the point of that( burning them) is that you get a smokey flavour. You could do a bit of singeing first and then roast them

expatinscotland · 12/03/2008 21:09

Oh come on!! Sling a couple of aubergines in the oven and incinerate. Empty out the insides into a food processor, add a couple of cloves of garlic, salt and pepper and squeeze half lemon in. Whizz together and add a slug of olive oil. Lob the lot into a bowl and sprinkle with chopped parsley.
much easier than going into M&S (saves you having to wince as you walk past Per Una)

Quattrocento · 12/03/2008 21:53

I can't be bothered with the OP. My issue is with the title. There are too many friends for the wine or too little wine for the friends

I think you should splash out and get some tasty canapes from waitrose or M&S..then you can rate them.

Much easier

welliemum · 12/03/2008 22:25

Similar to mooses, but I'd suggest little tiny quichy things with bacon and onion eggy filling (and lots of black pepper).

No good for the handbag because there are never any left over. [preen]
