my favourite includes the following all chucked into cooked pasta: sunblush toms, chorizo, olives, pesto, lemon juice

served with rocket and parmesan and balsamic

very rich

Monkeybird · 10/03/2008 15:35

don't know if anyone else has said this either but it's another pasta staple round ours:

pasta (spaghetti or linguine best here), smoked salmon scraps (much cheaper to buy than proper SS...), frozen petis pois (obv cook em first ) and as much creme fraiche as you need to make it nice and gooey. Squirt of lemon or lime at end.

More stuff you can store for some time (smoked salmon scraps and creme fraiche last ages in fridge) so good emergency dinner. Mmm might cook this tonight...

Grapefruitmoon - did I say something wrong?

i'm confused.

Tutter · 10/03/2008 16:14

kekouan, i think GM is referring to your choice of the word mong

kekouan · 10/03/2008 16:15

didn't realise it was offensive, and it's not like i was calling someone else a mong, I was referring to myself.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 16:16

Monkey - that sounds yum. Love smoked salmon. Might have that for dinner as well.

I rememebr trying that Nigella Lemon Linuine recipe and thought it was vomitous. Could be just my cooking skills thoigh

Kekouan - I think ghrapefruit was referring to you using the word mong - pretty un pc in this day and age.

collision · 10/03/2008 16:17

your turn of phrase in your first post was a bit much, kekouan

kekouan · 10/03/2008 16:18

sorry - forgot to apply mumsnet filter incase I offended anyone.

Gods...

good thing I'm not having a shitty day or anything, isn't it.

seeker · 10/03/2008 16:22

My children love this.

Smoked salmon chopped up small
A big blob of cream
A squeeze of lemon juice
A big handful of hot cooked frozen peas

All stirred into hot cooked pasta.

Yum.

Ds and I have low tastes and LOVE pasta with grated cheddar cheese and tomato ketchup, but dd and dp turn up their snooty foody noses at us.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 16:23

well, it is a bit of a daft thing to say.

And the fact that you called yourself a mong as opposed to someone else does not necessarily mean it is less offensive. You wouldn't dream of saying 'I put a load of fake tan on, now I look like a nigger' or something, would you.

There are plenty of parents with downs children I imagine on here who I think would find someone using the word mong a bit odd.

Mushrooms/leeks/white wine/double cream
Bacon/red chilli/tomatoes
Spinach/dolcelatte/cream/fresh spinach

Kekuoan, do you know what 'mong' is short for?

collision · 10/03/2008 16:24

but anyway....let's get back to pasta and not get unfriendly.....

Boil pasta

Chop up garlic and chilli. When pasta nearly done heat olive oil in a pan chuck garlic and chilli in and then a minute or so later, a glass of white wine. Let it reduce a bit, then throw in some big fat already cooked prawns (like the ones you can always bogof at sainsburys) let them cook through. Then creme fraiche at the last minute stir through.

Before draining pasta add some greenery like halved mange tout or frozen peas. cook. Then drain pasta and mix with the sauce. Sometimes works with a squeeze of lemon juice.

yum scrum

bundle · 10/03/2008 16:44

favourite pasta shape atm: bucatini

AnAngelWithin · 10/03/2008 16:46

cook some chicken breasts and brocolli. chop up. add to cooked pasta. cover with cheese sauce and bake in the oven. yumyumyum!

Anna8888 · 10/03/2008 17:28

bundle - bucatini rock

seeker · 10/03/2008 17:30

cover some chicken breasts with cajun spices and grill. Chop up some tomatoes and some fresh coriander. Chop up the chicken. Chuck the lot into some cooked hot pasta. Add enough creme fraiche to gunge it all together. Seriously yum.

alittlebitshy · 10/03/2008 17:36

I like one that (i think) VVVQV posted aaages ago.... Is an eggless carbonara one.
Fry onion, garlic and bacon
(cook spag/tag at same time obv)
Add half pot of double cream .
Take off heat and stir in handful grated parmesan.
Yum yum.
