thats it really, I have tried before but always a bit bland. DH is veggie so cant add meat to give it more flavour.

OP posts:

cinnamon

why not add a jar of mincemeat too, and a few glace cherries?

weirdo

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:23

you can get a veggie worcester sauce, but I don't really see the point

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:24

I will NOT have aspartame in my house
you can think again

Crunchie · 03/02/2008 14:31

geeny have you ever had a morioccan tagine??

I have a real affection for them (not exactly authentic as I throw in what I have) But I use that Ras al Halout stuff, cinnamon and raisins

AitchTwoOh · 03/02/2008 14:33

bay leaves. everything tastes tastier with a bay leaf, imo.

suzywong · 03/02/2008 14:33

a reduction of red wine, molasses, thyme and dark soy sauce

in answer to the OP, all this smooching and cliquieness is hampering the culinary wisdom, imo

AitchTwoOh · 03/02/2008 14:33

and if a fake, fish-eating veggie, an anchovy is an excellent base for so-called vegetarian food. i make a mean minestrone this way...

BBBee · 03/02/2008 14:34

red wine
marmite
worcester sauce
tom puree
teaspoon sugar and pinch salt
nice stock
herbs
soy sauce
loads of softened onions
ditto garlic
teaspoon peanut butter
creamed coconut
make some herb dumplings
serve with grated cheese or yoghurt

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:35

ah another anti-hijacker
ah well, if I cannot clique around occasionally there is not much fun to be had answering threads on casseroles IMO

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:35

what does peanut butter do to it? I ahve never, ever thought of that

suzywong · 03/02/2008 14:36

oh FFs let's cut the crap, there's nothing like a great hunk of animal tibia to impart flavour

end of

BBBee · 03/02/2008 14:36

oooh franny how's the boat you must tell me all about it now here on this thread I demand it.

BBBee · 03/02/2008 14:37

peanut butter adds a kind of mellow unctiousnous - good if you have over done the acidic tom and stuff.

Is a fucking dream in curries - stick it in your dhal darling!

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 14:37

cinnamon is good in some savoury dishes

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 14:38

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:38

BBBee · 03/02/2008 14:42

AitchTwoOh · 03/02/2008 14:42

AitchTwoOh · 03/02/2008 14:43

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 14:44

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 14:46

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 14:47

AitchTwoOh · 03/02/2008 14:52

it is lovely, frank. all pink and salty, with sliced tomato and a wee blob of mustard.
