What is this fruit that I have purchased?

Whilst in tesco this morning, ds picked up a fruit and threw it around the shop for a bit so I felt twas only fair that I bought it (74p)

It's yellow and a bit bigger than a tennis ball.

Is it a grapefruit? And if so, does grapefruit taste like grapefruit juice (because I don't like grapefruit juice)

Sorry to appear dumb, but my mum wasn't really a great one for fruit when we were kids and I only really buy stuff that I know

an ugli fruit or a pomelo?

MamaG · 15/01/2008 14:48

don't feel sad squonk, when I was a kid a kimi fruit was exotic!

curlywurlycremeegg · 15/01/2008 14:48

Pomelos are quite a bit bigger than a tennis ball though.

Does it look like a citrus fruit?

foofi · 15/01/2008 14:49

Is this a wind-up? You don't know what a grapefruit is?

Mercy · 15/01/2008 14:50

It does sound like a grapefruit. And it will taste like grapefruit juice - unless you sprinkle some brown sugar on it, it tastes quite nice then (can put into a fruit salad too)

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 14:50

Might be a grapefruit - though they are usually larger than a tennis ball, bigger than an orange.

Cut it.

fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:50

if you make a circle out of your forefingers and thumbs then it's about that big.

So, actually a bit bigger than a tennis ball. And no, foofi, I don't know what a grapefruit looks like, otherwise, I wouldn't be asking

Don't want to cut it, because if it is a grapefruit, I will give it to dp and pretend I wanted to buy it as a gift for him (he likes grapefruit juice, so probably likes the fruit itself, yeah?)

Does it have a citrus smell?

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 14:52

Is it a citrus fruit? Is it like a yellow orange?

fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:52

yeah, it's kind of yellowy orange.

looks a bit like this:

Sounds like a grapefruit, however (tmi) grapefruits are half price in tesco at the mo (3 for 75p) so 74p for one sounds a bit steep. Maybe a very special grapefruit...

BrownSuga · 15/01/2008 14:53

check the receipt? should say on there. might be a pink grapefruit. slightly less tart than the other.

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 14:53

I reckon it is a grapefruit them. A small one.

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 14:54

[waits for Squonk to check receipt]

fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:54

check the receipt! now that would just be too obvious and easy!

OP posts:
Mercy · 15/01/2008 14:56

Does it look like this

grapefruit SOunds like a pink one

fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:56

Receipt says "Gfruit yellow... 28p"

so I was wrong about how much it cost. The unidentified fruit next to my yellow Gfruit was obviously 74p.

I reckon it's a yellow grapefruit

Thanks all.

Back tomorrow, same time, same place for some unidentified vegetables?

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:57

fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:58

Will give it to dp and pretend I was thinking about him whilst in tesco

OP posts:
fryalot · 15/01/2008 14:58

lol!

Don't worry Squonk, when my dh was in his 20s a friend gave him a raw chilli and told him to take a bite knowing full well he didn't have a clue what it was.

fryalot · 15/01/2008 15:02

it doesn't look bruised

and I wasn't planning on wrapping it up or anything - I mean it's not his birthday
