Go on - spit it out - the rest of us might be able to give you a poor version of what the lovely Carmenere might say!

(Only because I'm nosey and want to know what you want to know!)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 22:15

I want to know some weightwatchers type stuff (without having to pay WW for more information).....

OP posts:
Twiggypiggy · 06/01/2008 22:16

Veni - can I help - I do ww

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/01/2008 22:16

Oh dash it. I was thinking it was going to be some really droool-worthy recipe. Now sounds very unlikely.

I know nothing of WW either so have intruded to no purpose on your thread.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 22:19

Oh no, do stay BIWT

Thank you twiggy - I'd like to work out my points allowance, and have a rough idea of points. I have a WW CDrom from a while back and it's not working properly on my laptop. I am waiting to hear back from WW about it, but, I dont really want to have to pay out again.

I am here, just looking through the books for points

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 22:24

Oh thank you twiggy

IIRC points allowance was dependent on BMI basically, wasnt it?

OP posts:
Twiggypiggy · 06/01/2008 22:29

In the book - I had to do a little quiz which determined how many points I was allowed. It goes on gender, age, current weight, height and occupation and whether you want to lose weight or maintain.

  1. Female - score 3, male score 9
  2. How old 16 -20 score 5
21-35 score 4 36-50 score 3 51-65 score 2 over 65 score 1
  1. How many stones do you weigh
  2. How tall - under 5ft 4 - score 1
over 5 4 score 2
  1. Main occupation - sitting most of time 0
occasionally standing, but mainly sitting 2 walking most of the time 4 doing physically hard work most of time 6
  1. Do you want to lose weight 0
or maintain 6 Now add up your score - this is points allowance
Twiggypiggy · 06/01/2008 22:31

Hope this makes sense - mine comes to 18 points

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 22:45

fab - thank you!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 22:48

So that would make me 3 + 4 + 14 + 2 + 0! yikes! 23 points!

No trouble at all. Am sat here flippin starving with loads of chocs and biscuits in the tin. But determined I am going to get back on track. I was ok until the beginning of December and then everything went wrong. Have been very strict with myself since last Wednesday. It is nice to have that hungry feeling when I wake up in the morning which reminds me that I have been good the previous day.

DH has sat there tonight tho with the biccies (luckily most were plain chocolate which I do not like).

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 23:00

Just calculated DH's to be 33! Lucky bugger

Dont you get a points allowance for treats during the week as well?

OP posts:
Twiggypiggy · 06/01/2008 23:06

No - cos I have not got a lot to lose from the start. But being only 5ft every pound shows. I try to stay as close to 8 stone as poss but I only need to look at a cream cake and a pound goes on.

Twas better when I went to the gym as I built up loads of bonus points with exercise and it was a lot easier to keep the weight off.

DH said to put the music channel on when I get up on a morning and do 20 mins dancing round the living room. Can tell he is not used to doing the school runs!

Going to make some more 0 point soup tomorrow to snack on when the hunger strikes.

Am going to bed now - so night night.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/01/2008 23:30

Night! and thank you!

Oh sorry, I have only just seen this

08aGreatYearForCarmenere · 06/01/2008 23:36

Here are a couple of no-point soup recipes I did for Custy to night.

Ok
Carrot soup
Spray oil
1 Onion, chopped roughly
1/2 leek, chopped
2 clove garlic, chopped
About 6 carrots peeled and roughly chopped
Coriander seeds
Black pepper and salt
Vegetable stock cube.

In a pot, spray the spray oil and sautee the veg for a few minutes. Add the coriander seed and stock and bring to the boil, simmer for about 20 minutes and then blend, add salt and pepper to taste.

Roasted veg soup
Spray oil
2 Onions, chopped roughly
1/2 leek, chopped
2 clove garlic, chopped
3 peppers, roughly chopped
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
a splash of balsamic
a large pinch of dried oregano and or thyme
Black pepper and salt
Vegetable stock.

Pre-heat the oven to about 200C
Spray a baking tray with oil. place the veg in the tray and spray with a more oil. sprinkle over the herbs and roast in the oven for about 15-20 minutes. Empty the contents of the tray into a pot and add the tin of tomatoes, top up with veg stock and cook on the hob for about 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and blend.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/01/2008 00:03

Thanks carmenere!!!
I have done a free one week trial - I begrudge paying again since I joined a while back - bought cdrom etc and now it's not suitable.

I'm allowed 24 points I'm a heifer

I'm trying to find all the "No Points" stuff on their website but cant so any more no points recipes you have for salads, soups etc would be very much appreciated - thank you

QV I was on 24 points when I started, 22 now Actually it is great because having 24 is loads and you don't feel like you are missing out which really helps you get started. And now I still feel the same way about 22 iyswim.
My top tip is to eat loads of no-point foods and use your points for wine.

I make a load of no-point veg curry(dp loves it) and have that with a little rice (I will do a recipe later)
Or make ratatouille with loads of aubergine, courgette and peppers onions and tomatoes and have that with a little pasta as it has no points. And if you are eating maincourse with no points you can afford to have a bit of parmesan with your pasta or raita on your curry iyswim.

My other fab low-point dinner is pad thai which is only about 5 points if you leave out the peanuts.

Good luck x

Twiggypiggy · 07/01/2008 09:41

Morning. Just for info on portion sizes -

medium fillet steak - size of a pack of cards 3pts
a medium bagel - size of a cd 3 pts
a medium serving of coleslaw - size of a computer mouse 3.5 pts
a medium portion of rice is the size of a tennis ball 3pts
a medium jacket potato is the size of a light bulb 2.5 pts

For 0 point soup - I just chuck in loads of veggies (whatever is in the fridge) with a stock cube and then blend when ready.

Don't forget that sugar free jelly is 0 points. I usually make this up in individual pots with a small helping of say raspberries or blueberries at the bottom so it will not even be half a point.

If I am having curry, chilli or pasta I will also fill my plate with veg or salad to make bulk it out a bit.

Porrige I make with water to save on points then there are more to go round on lunch and dinner.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/01/2008 11:50

Aww thanks you two

I'm feeling really positive about it despite weighing myself last night, and realising that I was 24 points and not 23 .

I've had a banana and slice of wholemeal toast for breakfast (normally go without breakfast), and am having pita, falafel, salad and low fat humous for lunch (I often dont get lunch because my hours of work are 10 to 2pm).

Thank you for your recipes - and portion sizes - much appreciated. If you could add some more when you have a mo that would be really helpful
