well of course... with mayonnaise aplenty. i guess i must buy bigger chickens than babyj cos i can still get another meal out of it.

Fireflyfairy2 · 06/01/2008 21:44

How was your mum tonight babyjj?

I think you're doing great & I'm glad that the ladies on here want to help you as much as they can

My dd was a wee rascal for not eating lunch, so I used to give her a picnic style lunch. I cut a few cubes of cheese for her, a few carrot sticks & a handful of raisins, I knew if she ate it all then she would be doing well & if she didn't eat it then it wasn't much of a waste h!

Whereabouts in the country are you? There might be an MN'er near you

Do you go out to any toddler groups or meet up with any of your friends? My sister had a baby at 16 so I know how hard it is. She said it was hard, as you are so much more grown up than your peers are, as you now have the responsibility for another human, but often you're too young to join in at groups as they look at you like you don't belong there.. that's maybe just my sister's experience though!!

Fireflyfairy2 · 06/01/2008 21:46

When I buy a chicken I get that evening meal out of the white meat.

Then I make a curry with the brown meat the next night.

Then I boil the bones & make a stock. I add a packet of barley/split peas, a leek & some soup veg & that makes a third nights dinner out of one chicken

babyjjbaby · 06/01/2008 21:54

she was a bit better todayFireflyfairy2 i don't like going to any groups or anything it's not for me i'm a bit of a loner i'm afraid i'd rather stay in get his toys out and play with him to be honest with yopu

Habbibu that amount makes enough sauce for a curry for me and two greedy children plus a rather greedy DP, if you used two tins of toms it would probably make two dinners for a decent size family.

I normally marinade the chicken in yoghurt mixed with 1tablesp cumin, 1teasp coriander, 1tablesp garam massala, some lemon juice, 6 cloves garlic and 1`inch(about 2 teaspoons) ginger, you make the marinade and put the chicken in it in the fridge for between 2-24 hours, then cook at the highest heat your oven goes for about 20 minutes. That gives you the tikka chicken, then you can either use it by itself or chuck it in the massala. I have to admit with garlic I'm bloody lazy and I ahvent got round to getting a garlic crusher yet (after 8years of playing house ) so I often use garlic powder or dried garlic.

VictorianSqualor · 06/01/2008 21:56

babyjjbaby, I'm not a groups type person either though I have met a few good friends from chatting online, like firefly says there could be someone close to you. Have you posted on your local MN yet?

welliemum · 06/01/2008 21:56

Cheese sauce is great - you can do so much with it.

Here's another idea: if you're not mad keen on fish, but still want the goodness of it, you can make a cheese sauce and stir in some tinned tuna. It bulks out the meal - tuna is really good protein - but doesn't taste fishy as such.

I make this sauce quite often and eat it with pasta. I like it with loads of black pepper but that's up to you!

Habbibu · 06/01/2008 21:59

Thanks, VS - am filing away for near future!

Fireflyfairy2 · 06/01/2008 21:59

Oh no, I hate groups too!!

I met a local lady at my slimming world group though, turned out she was a fellow MN'er

I meet her now & again with our children.

Doesn't it get lonely sometimes pet?

babyjjbaby · 06/01/2008 22:02

I think I might enjoy other peoples company if I met someone as wonderful as me but unfortunately they don't come up to scratch so I just make do with MN

Habbibu · 06/01/2008 22:08

Do you think we'd disappoint you in real life, VS?

If you want to do slimming world again & can't afford to join, there's a slimming world thread on here where you can get the online password every week & get recipes etc.. there's lots of support on the thread & it's like a virtual group

babyjjbaby · 07/01/2008 06:55

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 07:20

you can give him things like that if you make them from scratch cos then they won't have loads of junk. have a look on here and search for turkey twizzlers, chicken goujons, chicken and apple sausages and there's a fish finger recipe here

babyjjbaby · 07/01/2008 09:03

can he have 2 rusks for breakfast with water

OP posts:
Misdee · 07/01/2008 09:05

i would not give the rusk, give him wheetabix again

babyjjbaby · 07/01/2008 09:09

ok is rusk no good

OP posts:
Misdee · 07/01/2008 09:16

full of sugar. they are very nice, eat them yourself

Habbibu · 07/01/2008 09:17

Rusks sugary and refined, babyj. Weetabix much better, and porridge is brilliant and very cheap - make with the baby's usual milk and no sugar. You can add some fruit, such as grated apple, to vary the flavour, but you'll find that they'll happily eat unsweetened things which would make your own tongue curl.

babyjjbaby · 07/01/2008 09:19

how much porridge should i do him i have 1scoop and 4 scoops of milk and then u cook it for 2 mins asda quick porride i think it's called migh t just give him weetabix

OP posts:
Habbibu · 07/01/2008 09:21

I have a pretty big eating 14 month old, and she gets throuigh porridge made with 3 tablespoons of oats, so I'd at least half that - one scoop prob fine. In future, just get the most basic oats you can - cheaper than any quick porridge and probably nicer.

Misdee, I too am a secret fan of the rusk - for adults...
