Bleurgh to milk in porridge. Only ds1 adds it to his, the rest of us pour on maple syrup.

FrannyandZooey · 08/12/2007 21:07

I have tried. even this year I have tried. I was forced to eat rice pudding by an evil dinner lady when a child and since then anything cooked with milk in just makes me want to heave

I can smell it now - uugh

MrsCarrot · 08/12/2007 21:07

then don't add milk

FrannyandZooey · 08/12/2007 21:09

still didn't like it

sorry

I guess it is not the milk? the cooked grainness of it also offends

I am porridge failure

expatinscotland · 08/12/2007 21:13

even easier.

put the oats in one of those lunch thermoses.

cover with water just off the boil.

put the lid on.

leave it for 10 minutes.

stir it up.

add what you want.

eat!

MrsCarrot · 08/12/2007 21:14

I love the way it slides off the plate when its cold and set, sort of blancmongey.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 08/12/2007 21:14

you need a recipe????

BettySpaghetti · 08/12/2007 21:16

Forget the salt and sugar, add chopped dates and walnuts instead. Very nice.

MrsCarrot · 08/12/2007 21:19

Sultanas and cinnamon is nice too, somtimes I pour dc's porridge over raspberries and blueberries though they'd prefer it if I didn't.

Sorry, Franny!

expatinscotland · 08/12/2007 21:23

what type of oats are you using?

pinhead? fine? rough-milled? rolled? if rolled - quick cooking or old fashioned?

moondog · 08/12/2007 21:24

Porridge sooooo soothing.
My fave is with a tin of drained blackcurrants tipped over it.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 08/12/2007 21:26

er....tesco

nutcracker · 08/12/2007 21:29

Same

DeePancrisPaneven · 08/12/2007 21:42

And putting lots of dried fruit on the top will count towards your 5-a-day, AND, you can drop the sugar.
