May be by recipy will help. 1/2 cup of poridge to 1 cup of milk, 1 to 2 tsp of honey. Cook for 4 minutes stirring, then swich off the gas, cover with the lid and leave for 3 minutes. Serve in small bowls and add anything you like - raspberries/ grated apple/grapes/raisins/ and enjoy. I get Scotts poridge oats or Quakers poridge oats. Tried organic Tesco and it was awful so oats do very in taste. If you definately don't like poridge there is enough cereal you might try and see if you like it - genoya or millet or rice pudding.

Porridge aside now (I have mine with just water, then add milk when in the bowl)

What the heck is that symbol on the the thread title?

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 09/12/2007 07:45

Copyright! (Am well impressed that cod got that to work in a title!)

I do like porridge but it doesn't fill me till lunchtime like everyone says it will.

Last time I had it at 8am I was starving by 10 - is it just me?

fedda · 09/12/2007 17:19

No, you are not alone. It happens to me as well especcially if I have it at 8, do the school run and coming home I feel I need something to eat. I usually try to snack on fruit but it's cold now so i need my cup of tea or coffee with something.

what happened there
Sorry

starfish2 · 02/01/2008 21:40

Finally I had time in the morning to make it. And it was FAB!!! Dh wanted more, dd too.
I also had to pervert it a bit and added coconut powder (only for mine, dh thinks any additions other than sugar are unthinkable). It was fab too!
The recipe has been added (credit properly given) to my recipe book. Thank you, Cod!

We are definitely porrige lovers here! my kids are so used to porridge in the morning they refuse to eat anything else for breakfast. I add in chopped apricots, wheat germ, ground walnuts or seeds and top with cinnamon. When we can find it I mix oats with quinoa flakes - makes it a bit less sweet and adds protein. And we use all milk, no water. Its the only meal of the day that I can guarantee they will eat all of.

star - I've added dessicated coconut from time to time too -- seems to go well with walnuts

myrrhthamoo · 02/01/2008 22:01

Ugh, I make it for the kids and it just makes me want to chunder. It is the most gross looking stuff (I don't think I've ever even tried it - my brother always used to have it for breakfast - I just don't even like the thought of it).

Expat in scotland is right. I use oatmeal and water. Bring to the boil using a whisk, no lumps and serve with cold milk separately in another small bowl. DH adds his milk to the bowl of porridge.
