help solve our butter battle

dh says we have to keep the butter in fridge. if my back is turned he slips it in. i have always (and so did mum) kept butter in butter dish in the larder. why put it in fridge? it just comes out like a brick and useless.

if dh gets butter out of fridge he slices it like cheese and puts it on his toast. whereas i spread it

pft

Buy two packets?

PrincessSnowLife · 30/11/2007 11:25

agree that butter is best (i.e. more usable) out of the fridge.

Habbibu's solution sounds good

ProjectTartanArmyIcarus · 30/11/2007 11:25

I have a dh that does that too. PITA.

m&S spreadable butter v nice though and it is just butter.

tarantula · 30/11/2007 11:26

Butter in the fridge? Cant see the point. Useless for anything. We have it in a butter dish on the side but only put half a packet out at the tiem as I dont liek it sittign out for too long.

he insists butter goes off out of the fridge

Habbibu · 30/11/2007 11:29

Ah. I love butter, but the "cheese slice" thing is a bit horrible, I think. I'd always keep butter outside the fridge (but then I do that with eggs, so take no notice of me). Agree that M%S spreadable butter is very nice.

clumsymum · 30/11/2007 11:30

I only put butter in the fridge in the very hottest weather, I don't think it went in at all this year.

If your dh is slicing butter on to his bread, then he's eating far too much of it.

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 11:31

eggs are kept outside fridge in this house too

ok, i shall tell him he is alone in thinking its kept in fridge

i always thought spreadable butter was half butter half marg

buy one of these

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 11:32

dh just ADORES butter. so do i but i stop at slices of it

ProjectTartanArmyIcarus · 30/11/2007 11:32

Most of the spreadable ones are NP. M&S not. I think they whip it or something to make it soft.

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 11:33

wow hildegard - stylish too!

I always put butter in the fridge (and eggs) and both dh and ds slice it off on their toast!

(but then spent formative years in a v hot country where you'd be downright loony to leave butter out of the fridge!)

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 11:35

i will check it out, project. there is a markies nearby.

how are you anyway? hows the girls? are you coming to the night out?

It was the best christmas present I was given last year. Especially when filled with belgian butter with sea salt crystals.

starfish2 · 30/11/2007 11:40

£35!!!!!!! For a butter dish???
Well, if you fill it with salt crystal butter... hmmm... on hot toasted sourdough bread... [pig emoticon]

ProjectTartanArmyIcarus · 30/11/2007 12:06

ComeOVeneer · 30/11/2007 12:14

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 12:15

If your butter is coming out of the fridge like a brick it is either in the wrong place in the fridge (it should be in the door) or your fridge is too cold.

nailpolish · 30/11/2007 12:16

comeoveneer
