Why are British women such shit cooks??

I mix with a lot of different people.
Over the years, the women I know who can cook could be counted on one hand (and my mother and sister are two of those.)

Seriously, people haven't got a fucking clue about even the most basic stuff. On the rare occasion I am even invited to eat in someone else's house it is usually inedible slop.

And yet,the tv has nothing but cookery programmes on it,Gordon Ramsey is a househole name and the bookshops burst with glossy tomes that make the best seller list.

Seriously, any ideas???

Pointy,I know lots of shit Welsh cooks.Although on reflection, merginally more English ones.

I am interested in people who find the concept of cooking a bind because I don't. Never have.

I happily do diiner for 8/10 friends, even when dh abroad and not around to help out.

I prefer cooking for a crowd, if it is just me I usually get a tub of soup out the freezer (my own homemade soup though)

I am British and when I can be bothered I can cook. I didn't learn to do a white sauce at school nor was I taught by my mothere. I read how to do it in a cookery book - cooking isn't really rocket science is it?

I don't think teaching it in school makes much difference - all we were ever taught was how to make cakes which, whilst lovely, is hardly the basis for a healthy diet. I think if it is going to be taught it should be in the home. I don't recall my French friends ever having cooking lessons at school for example.

PenelopePitstops · 05/11/2007 23:47

me too skribble! i love cooking for other people it makes me

Skribble · 05/11/2007 23:48

Strangley enough I did get quite ill, when I got to the middle it was still frozen, hence food poisoning.

Skribble · 05/11/2007 23:53

I think Big Cook Little Cook will put a generation of kids of cooking and those that do still cook will have very strange screwed up ideas of food and will try to model every meal into a fairytale character.

pointydog · 05/11/2007 23:53

yeah skribble, stop talking about frozen kebabs. They were a mirage

Skribble · 05/11/2007 23:56

Aw yes tattie scones, in the toaster for quickness then slathered in butter. Best fryed in pan after doing loads of bacon though.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/11/2007 23:57

That blardy Big Cook Little Cook does my head in!!
Ds1 loves it and he is only 2.
It gets stuck in my head all day.
The blokes are soooo annoying.

Pick up all the bits and bobs,
The things that help us do our jobs,
Ingredients we put away,
Ready for use another day,
Pots and pans will start to smell,
If we don't wash them really well....

AARRGGHH!!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/11/2007 23:58
