Gusto boxes

Just started the gusto boxes. Would anyone like to swap recipe choices? / hints?

I’m cooking the prawn farfalle today - about to serve it for lunch but baffled the online recipe and physical recipe card don’t match. One says rocket one says pea shoots - I assume that’s a sub but weird that it’s the physical version that’s correct!

Has anyone else made this one? Or have any tips on choosing gusto meals?

Yes the aubergine and ginger stir fry. Such lovely flavours!

Foxhasbigsocks · 26/05/2021 22:28

Mmmmm very nice!

TheCreationOfDistance · 27/05/2021 07:27

My box was too late in the order for the aubergine & ginger but I’m going to buy the ingredients & make it for vegetarian dcs. That’s commitment for you! 😁

Looking forward to my next box, arriving soon!

SpamIAm · 27/05/2021 19:52

We've had a long break but they tempted me back in with 30% off. Had the Baity dish tonight - not as much flavour as I was expecting with how many spices were involved but it was nice enough. Teatime slightly ruined by a screaming 1 year old...

Having the chorizo and parmentier potato tacos tomorrow.

myfuckingfreezer · 27/05/2021 19:56

@pinkchampagne1

Had my box delivered today and one of my recipe bags was missing and replaced with some other random bag. Don’t have all the ingredients for the chicken curry now
You can just report this on your account and you get quite a lot of credit!

About 50% of my boxes have had at least one missing ingredient and the credit is more than the value eg a shallot which I got £2 credit for.

The other 50% have at least one extra thing! I've had extra pots of spices, extra rice, extra soy sauce, extra cream cheese. All very useful!

TabbyStar · 27/05/2021 21:51

I thought my spring onions were missing, but turned out DD had used all four in Tuesday's meal. She didn't bother with the peanuts though so I still have those 🤷🏻‍♀️. I did get a slightly manky chilli, but can't be bothered to complain.

StickyToffeeHobnob · 28/05/2021 07:14

Is anyone gonna try the peanut butter and jelly burger?

Looks minting to me.

SpamIAm · 28/05/2021 09:25

Absolutely not. Don't like peanut butter at the best of times, certainly don't want it on my burger.

Foxhasbigsocks · 28/05/2021 15:54

Ewww sounds yuck!

pinkchampagne1 · 28/05/2021 16:29

I’m not tempted by the peanut butter burger but the Marmite one (coming in a few weeks) looks interesting.

We had the sticky beef wraps last night. They were ok but I probably wouldn’t order again.

TheCreationOfDistance · 28/05/2021 19:39

DS had the chicken shashlik burritos for lunch and LOVED them! The portions are so generous. There’s loads left.

Do any other teenagers like them? He won’t cook but likes the nosh, especially anything burrito/wrap/enchilada. Will remember to placemats 1 of these for him in each box.

TheCreationOfDistance · 28/05/2021 19:40

Peanut butter burger doesn’t sound appealing but might be nice in a nut roast veggie thing sort of way?! 🧐

pinkchampagne1 · 29/05/2021 08:45

We have the shashlik chicken wraps for dinner tonight. Hoping my boys enjoy them. Smile

pinkchampagne1 · 29/05/2021 20:06

Chicken shashlik wraps were really nice and very filling. My DS ate the majority of it but pulled out the tomatoes.

AlwaysLatte · 29/05/2021 20:19

We had Noya's kitchen chilli and ginger aubergine stir fry this evening. It was really delicious. We're not doing Gousto any more due to the packaging but they have been great recipes which we'll repeat, and this one was particularly good.

Hurrah! I’m glad you enjoyed the shashliks, @pinkchampagne1!

We had the Turkish lamb pattie things BUT I cheated and made the Turkish lamb stew with it instead. Added my own cumin and a slosh of white wine cos the lamb mince smelt like old socks (is it just me who gets this with lamb?!). Lamb was too fatty, too, I think, but the finished product was good & there’s tons left for interesting lunches next week.

Is it bad to use the ingredients to make other things? Feels naughty!

A couple of the sachets were open & there was chilli everywhere!

TheCreationOfDistance · 29/05/2021 22:35

Lovely pic, @AlwaysLatte. I’m going to make this one off-box!

pinkchampagne1 · 31/05/2021 19:44

Just had the chicken pathia. It was really good.

SpamIAm · 31/05/2021 20:13

The chicken pathia was SO HOT! I'll never take such a blasé attitude towards their warnings not to use all the cayenne if you can't take the heat again 😂

pinkchampagne1 · 31/05/2021 20:30

It was quite spicy, we both commented that it had a bit of a kick, more so than other Gousto curries we have tried. We enjoyed it though.

pinkchampagne1 · 31/05/2021 21:20

What’s everyone having this week?
We are having a week off (pathia left from last week) as we have lots of eating out plans for half term.
Have ordered a box for next week though.

TheCreationOfDistance · 01/06/2021 10:03

I’ve gone terribly off piste with my box this time round & used half the ingredients make other things! The leftovers sometimes become new things, too. I froze 1 pack of prawns & just made breaded chicken with 1 breast from those wraps. I used Gousto breadcrumbs previously frozen! Thought we’d cook more this week but have ended up going out more on account of half term 😬

pinkchampagne1 · 01/06/2021 10:25

We are out a lot this week too, which is why I have held off ordering a box. Have a bacon and mushroom risotto left over from last week which I will cook one night.

We have bought some of the spices and vinegars used in a lot of the meals now so we are going to start cooking up some of our favourites ourselves.

TheCreationOfDistance · 01/06/2021 10:28

I went through this routine before. Somehow after a few boxes, I find myself playing catch-up. Probably, I don’t need the box for 4 but the price thing per meal pressurises me into getting best value for money. Ah well, can freeze, I guess!

pinkchampagne1 · 01/06/2021 10:55

I know what you mean. I originally selected a box for 2 as my boys can be fussy but when you work out that it’s under £12.76 to double the ingredients from a £35 2 people box to a 4 box (4 meals for 2 ) then it seems silly not to. My husband can always take any leftovers for his work snack.
