What do you put on your porridge?

In my house, it's officially porridge season Grin

I normally have it with blueberries and almonds, or banana (and sometimes banana, walnuts and maple syrup when I'm feeling indulgent!)

Any other ideas? What do you add on yours? Only thing I wouldn't like is chocolate as it's too sickly first thing in the morning.

@Lisette1940

What type of porridge are people using? I like Mornflake superoats. So it's that and my Greek yoghurt and berries. Sometimes I have tinned pears and cinnamon on top.
The organic ones from Aldi in the paper bag
whirlwindwallaby · 05/09/2020 11:14

Oh, sometimes I mix an egg in as well

We use organic as apparently I read normal oats are always covered with a round up type of spray as they are grown as a huge mini crop, so it was worth the extra cost for me. Before that I used lidls oats.

Stir in blueberries and or blackberries half way through cooking so they soften but don’t break up too much.

This morning I made porridge pancakes. Stirred and egg and berries into dry porridge and cooked on a griddle. Some maple syrup. Excellent.
Can be made with instant oat pouches also. Easiest pancakes ever and healthier /easier for some than flour.

A flat crepe pan type griddle !

Just milk and my dad thought that was extravagant! He was a water and salt man.
Can you tell we’re Scottish 😏

Same here. I make mine with water and add salt. Yum. The rest of these suggestions would have my Grandad turning in his grave Smile

As a child I was once served porridge made with water and salt, when I was used to it with milk and some sugar/golden syrup. I honestly thought it was a practical joke as I thought it was so horrible! I haven't tried it that way again as an adult though, so maybe I'd like it now?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/09/2020 11:55

As a weekend treat experiment we did porridge with banana cooked in and a dollop of biscoff on top. Was very good and will be added to the list Grin

longtompot · 06/09/2020 11:56

A good pinch of salt in the porridge when cooking it, then into a bowl, a moat of cold milk and a spoonful of dark brown sugar. Yum!

DoubleDessertPlease · 06/09/2020 13:12

Pinch of salt and maple syrup Smile

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 06/09/2020 22:08

I usually just have it on it's own. Milk and maybe a sprinkle of brown sugar.

I might throw cinnamon and honey into the mix.
Like the idea of prepping it the night before too.
Does it make much difference?

CraftyGin · 06/09/2020 22:08

Salt

Magissa · 06/09/2020 22:12

TBS cocoa powder
Banana
TBS or two peanut butter.

Snickers porridge

Cheeseoncheese · 06/09/2020 22:15

Almond butter and cherry jam at the moment, like a bakewell Smile will be moving into stewed apple and cinnamon when it gets a bit cooler! But sometimes just sugar is nice.

Some of these ideas are brilliant!!
Definitely going to have to work my way through them and see which ones I approve of. I'll report back Grin

Strawberries, blueberries, Raspberries, Banana and a drizzle of Honey!

HeronLanyon · 07/09/2020 09:06

I just tried my usual blackberries half cooked but this time poured small amount of coconut cream over it in the bowl - really good and helped counteract the tartness if my hand picked blackberries.
Fear I got mine in too early this season. Have pounds of them. So far they have been rather tart !!!

FelicityPike · 07/09/2020 09:20

Salt.

AuntieMarys · 07/09/2020 09:24

Cinnamon and raspberries

Lisette1940 · 07/09/2020 10:00

ah footprint - I did not know that. Might try the organic version.

tantamountto · 07/09/2020 13:49

I tried maple syrup and salt this morning, plus yogurt, and it was pretty good.

whirlwindwallaby · 08/09/2020 07:32

Tried it with Greek yogurt on top (proper 10% fat stuff). Felt a bit sick, I think because there was already a cup of milk in the porridge. Think I'll stick to butter.

Bluesheep8 · 08/09/2020 14:02

I eat it every day. With raspberries and mango.
