What do you put on your porridge?

In my house, it's officially porridge season Grin

I normally have it with blueberries and almonds, or banana (and sometimes banana, walnuts and maple syrup when I'm feeling indulgent!)

Any other ideas? What do you add on yours? Only thing I wouldn't like is chocolate as it's too sickly first thing in the morning.

Standard weekday porridge has mixed spice and banana cooked in, then add raisins at the end. If I need a pick me up, I add a few squares of dark chocolate with the raisins. Weekend treat is biscoff spread

Note to self ... add porridge to shopping list!

Mamagotskills · 04/09/2020 21:15

Chopped pear cooked in and a sprinkle of raisins

homemadecommunistrussia · 04/09/2020 21:17

Omg now I need porridge!
Either golden caster sugar
Or honey, cinnamon and raisins

LeaveMyDamnJam · 04/09/2020 21:17

Jam obvs.

SweetPeaPods · 04/09/2020 21:18

Golden syrup for me. I also prefer to make it with oat milk instead of cows milk.

willowboom · 04/09/2020 21:34

A grated carrot, cinnamon, sultanas and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Tastes just like carrot cake.

Some of these ideas sound delicious.

Beetle76 · 04/09/2020 21:35

Butter and brown sugar. If I have the time, sliced apples caramelised with butter and brown sugar.

DoTheHotStuff · 04/09/2020 21:52

Grated apple and cinnamon

midsomermurderess · 04/09/2020 22:36

I cut through a banana, or if I have them, dried apricots, and microwave it.

Hardbackwriter · 04/09/2020 22:43

In our house porridge with a spoonful of Nutella is called 'weekend porridge' because it's a weekend-only treat (in the week porridge is sweetened only with fruit - bananas, berries or dried apricots). I've recently dropped my hours at work and this morning had the wonderful revelation that I could therefore have Nutella porridge - I don't work Fridays so it's my weekend...

are you mad? it's still September you know!
when autumn comes I shall be mostly eating porridge made in the microwave with milk and water and mixed seeds, then frozen berries stirred in to cool it quickly

Isbutteracarb · 04/09/2020 22:55

Cook in almond milk and top with chopped strawberries and almond butter 🤤

Hyperfish101 · 04/09/2020 22:56

Peanut butter. Or cream.

Hospitalvisit · 04/09/2020 23:05

I feel rather boring with my pinch of cinnamon

seayork2020 · 04/09/2020 23:07

Milk/cream and brown sugar

cdtaylornats · 04/09/2020 23:37

Salt

tantamountto · 04/09/2020 23:43

Whisky or sherry, yoghurt, toasted almonds, raisins, honey.
Or stem ginger with ginger syrup and yoghurt and honey.

blue25 · 04/09/2020 23:47

Cinnamon, nuts & honey

OMG, grated carrot, that’s a genius idea!

Grated apple (for a PP’s glut of bramleys) works really well too.

OohKittens · 05/09/2020 07:28

Salt and (vegan) butter. I make with oat milk.

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 05/09/2020 08:41

Mix in banana, frozen blueberries and chia seeds. Top with Greek yogurt, coconut, pumpkin seeds and sliced almond. Oh and kiwi Fruit or plums, depending on the season. Its very indulgent 😂

Lisette1940 · 05/09/2020 08:59

What type of porridge are people using? I like Mornflake superoats. So it's that and my Greek yoghurt and berries. Sometimes I have tinned pears and cinnamon on top.

GladAllOver · 05/09/2020 10:21

Tried all the fancy brands of oats but went back to Quaker or Scott's (they both come from the same factory, together with some own-brands).

One cup of oats in a bowl, two cups of milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Leave overnight in the fridge. In the morning, three minutes in the microwave.

luckyduckydooda · 05/09/2020 10:23

Not to rain on anyone's porridge parade or anything-but make sure you're using ceylon cinnamon- as the other sort (cassia)can be toxic...
