Well although the past few days have been nice and sunny, there is still a nip in the air I have to say

SOOOOOOO

It kinda got me thinking about winter etc and getting myself kinda organised.

Can we make this a wee recipe swap thread, help us all along the wintery way when it comes

Froot - brisket is fab in the slow cooker. I just brown it off (if I've got time to spare & rub in some salt&pepper & mustsrd powder) & plonk it in the slow cooker - on low, all day, no added liquid needed.

I also always use my slow cooker for Christmas pudding - both to cook it initially & again on Christmas day.

Cheers chaps. Have ordered myself a cheapo book off amazon.

Bought a kilo hunk of brisket at the butchers - it cost £6.50 !! I thought it was going to be cheaper than that. Also bought a kilo of neck of lamb which was £5.50. Are those prices about right or have I got an extremely expensive butcher? Looked in Waitrose afterwards and prices more or less same in there.

Also bought some kidneys and some liver (neither for slow cooker) which was dead cheap.

I don't know how much the meat I buy from the butcher is he just tells me the total at the end.

Did you get neck fillet? Thats a lovely cut to slow cook. Just eaten part 2 of the curry I made last week with it.

I'm going to have a good read of this later but for now, I'm going to contribute our tea receipie from this week:

Sausage casserole for about 6 people:

12 sausages
carrots
swede
2 tins of beans
a good slug of brown sauce
3 large onions
a litre of vegetable bouillion (honestly try it it really makes a difference)

Cook the sausages and chuck it all in on high (ours took about 5 hours for the veg to be cooked through) very, very tasty!

oops, forgot, herbs, loads of sage, I also put in oregano, thyme and rosemary (but I@d have probably left out the others for the sage if I'd had it from the beginning!)
