I do shoulder of lamb (cos it's cheap) - just quickly browned in pan, then plonked in slow cooker for 5-6 hours on high. Delicious.

biglips · 10/09/2007 10:33

â™ the slow cooker is on....hmmm im starving now!!

just cooking a half leg of lamb for tea 2nite

Scootergrrrl · 10/09/2007 13:51

Steak bake is fab in the slow cooker - layer onions sprinkled with crushed garlic and salt, sliced tomatoes, braising steak and sliced potatoes a couple of times. Cook until cooked!

lilolilmanchester · 10/09/2007 18:53

Pork stew

Chopped onions (or leeks for a change)
Cubed Pork
Fry together, cook in a bit of flour. Add all or any of the following:
Tin tomatoes
stock/wine
herbs
garlic
paprika
celery
carrots
swede

Mushrooms and/or any kind of pre-cooked beans (butter, flageolet etc) an hour before the end of the cooking time

If I don't add the tomatoes, I use more stock and add a large teaspoon mustard.

Secret behind slow cooker is that almost anything goes once you've got the hang of it and almost always fab, even just with meat, onions and stock.

jambuttie · 10/09/2007 22:08

mmmmmmmmm theses all sound yummy

Nemo2007 · 11/09/2007 09:51

Well today we are having
frozen carrots, peas and sweetcorn with fresh mushrooms, potato and onion. All thrown in with a bonless lamb shoulder on top and covered in mint.
Smells quite nice and only been in for half an hour!!

TheMadHouse · 11/09/2007 09:57

Do you add fluid to cover the lamb or does it just cook - dumb question, but then I am blond

Nemo2007 · 11/09/2007 11:10

madhouse I have put in around 300ml of water just so it sort of steams the lamb and veg.

froot · 28/09/2007 12:02

anyone done a whole lump of brisket in a slow cooker?

Do you have to cover everything with liquid?

When I use mine it always seems too watery...

Furball · 28/09/2007 12:20

did a lovely curry last week

lamb (neck fillet)
1/2 jar curry paste (Tikka Masala)
Tin tomatoes
chopped onion

Put it on for 7 hours then scooped all the fat - half a cupful! off the top and added 100ml single cream and left it for another hour. Delicious.

Furball · 28/09/2007 12:21

froot - i was under the impression that you put the vegs in first with just enough water and lay the joint on the top, not in any water. It then steams the meat. I've never done it though.

Roseylea · 28/09/2007 12:23

I made a fabulous Beef Goulash in the slow cooker yesterday. Felt so smug as I served it up!

Furball · 28/09/2007 12:26
